We all know that getting enough protein is essential. It helps build and repair muscle, supports our immune system, keeps us feeling full longer, and helps regulate hormones and enzymes. I’m beginning to call myself a bit of a pro when it comes to buying quick and easy high-protein items at Costco. Here are a few high-protein items I always have on hand, plus some meal ideas.
SB TIP: Costco just announced an hour of shopping before normal open times for Executive Members! Beginning June 30, 2025, you can arrive at 9 a.m. with the Executive Member card.
Steak and Chicken Bites
These individual portions of pre-cooked sirloin steak and grass-fed chicken breast are so easy and delicious. I always get one package of each to keep in the fridge for a quick addition to breakfast or lunch. I’ll throw them on a plate with eggs and toast or toss them into a salad for lunch. For dinner, you could add them to a simple serving of pasta or rice! They’re fantastic cold or heated, and have so much protein.
Sous Vide Egg Bites
Costco’s Kirkland sous‑vide egg bites are like the cult‑fave Starbucks ones but way more wallet‑friendly. I switch between the two Kirkland options: bacon and gouda, and cheese trio with roasted red pepper.
Pro tip: Pair these egg bites with a serving of the meat mentioned above!
Magic Spoon High-Protein Cereal Bars
Magic Spoon took their famed high‑protein, low‑sugar cereal concept and transformed it into on‑the‑go bars that are SO delicious. Think crispy, puffy squares in nostalgic flavors. This brand can do no wrong in my eyes. Their prices are high, but you pay for quality, and Costco offers to best per-bar deal.
Goodles Mac & Cheese
Goodles makes better-for-you noodles with wheat flour, chickpeas, kale, and other stealthy plant magic. A bowl of Goodles is creamy, cheesy, comforting, and great for weeknight dinners. We often add chicken and broccoli to make the meal even more well-rounded. Costco sells packs of eight boxes in two flavors. Smoothie Kits (+ Smoothie Additions)
Costco’s frozen smoothie packs (you’ll spot them in the freezer aisle) are basically grab-and-go bags of berries, bananas, kale, and spinach. They give me NO excuse to skip my morning smoothie. Six servings are about $12, which means you’re getting a roughly $2 smoothie base. It’s so much cheaper than the $20 smoothie I am tempted to order at Nashville’s many trendy cafes.
The Optimum Nutrition brand offers vanilla and chocolate protein powder for $68 per 5.5-pound bag — a fantastic deal for quality whey protein. Each serving has 24 grams of protein, and 80 servings per bag. (If only they’d come out with an unflavored option!)
Kirkland Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is the best for everything — smoothies, breakfast bowls, and recipes that call for sour cream. There are so many options. Greek yogurt typically has about twice the protein of regular yogurt, plus it’s excellent for the gut microbiome. Costco’s Kirkland brand is the best price for non-fat Greek yogurt. It’s under $7 for a 48-ounce tub and has 18 grams of protein per serving.
