Imagine a cozy nook of the house dedicated only to you. There’s a soft spot to sit, calming scents wafting through the air and accents of leafy green lit by dimmed bulbs. This is your new indoor zen zone.
The stress of a busy season has us feeling inspired to create our own at-home sanctuary, so we found all the right pieces. Vibrant greens and simple succulents in metal, etched and hanging planters are essential. Add a fuzzy throw atop a comfortable pouf, unique lighting and a must-have rug, and there you have it! A space all to yourself for relaxing and recharging in the comfort of your own home. Here’s how to create your own indoor zen zone, boho style.
For our zen zone inspiration today, we have four rooms, and from them, we’re going to pick out the essentials and create our own special place with just a few key pieces.
A place to sit is key, and the more comfortable the better. You don’t need a lot of space — a little corner will do just fine. Natural light is great, but not a necessity. A rug is ideal under your feet, but a big cushion will do in a pinch. Image: Stylecaster
Plants are key. If you opt for faux plants, try to mix in some live plants for the oxygen … your little space in the world will be that much more relaxing. Cushions to sit on, curl up with or rest your feet on are ideal. Image: Pinterest
This is pretty ideal, but most people don’t have this much space to devote just to themselves! However, note the plants, a comfy throw, cushions, carpet … yep, those are things you can accomplish. Image: @fleamarketfab
Hanging plants are great if you can swing it. But just like the previous inspirational photos illustrate, all you really need are plants, a place to sit, a throw and a rug under your feet. Cats are optional, and candles make great additions as well. Image: Domino
Now, let’s make your own corner of the universe.
Plants are essential in establishing your indoor zen zone, but if you’re not one to take care of the leafy greens, you’re in luck! We found a few easy and faux options that are ideal for decorating your comfort zone. Large, leafy greens add height and color to a space while small succulents are both adorable and easy to take care of. Finish off the plant decor (and have fun while you’re at it) by growing something yourself! We went the ultra-zen way with a bonsai tree kit.
Succulents are a fantastic option for the not-so-green-thumb gardener. Plus, in tons of unique styles, these poky plants will add a touch of fun to your zen zone. We found these at Urban Outfitters for $49.
Faux greens are another easy option for adding some life to your at-home sanctuary. Opt for one large plant to take up a ton of space and make a gorgeous statement. We found this at Target is $88.99.
Get creative with your zen zone and add the most tranquil plant of all: a bonsai tree! With step-by-step instructions, this is an easy and fun project with a beautiful outcome. We found this at Urban Outfitters for $16.
Give those plants a home! Integrating a variety of planters into your design is a must when establishing a relaxed, bohemian vibe. We love the idea of mixing metal planters with intricate, ceramic pots and hanging options to create a dynamic space and make the most of your plants!
Metal planters are a great way to add some glam to your zen zone. After all, every space in your home deserves a little shine. We found these at West Elm for $14-$19.
We love these white, ceramic planters for adding both height and dimension to a space. These are the perfect way to turn a plant into a statement piece. We found these at West Elm for $179 each.
A hanging planter is the ultimate boho-chic decor accessory. We love this geometric option with woven yarn, and a small cactus is the perfect occupant! We found this at Anthropologie for $108.
Cozy, warm and inviting — these words should define the decor of your home sanctuary. A pouf is a fantastic way to add comfortable seating without taking up the space a couch requires. And a neutral, soft rug will not only provide comfort, but will also help to define the space within a room. Complete the decor with a feathery throw for added texture and a Himalayan salt lamp as a bohemian, natural touch.
A comfortable pouf is a fantastic, unique option for seating in your space. We love the fun detail and neutral color of this one. Plus, its quality fabric will last for years. We found this at Anthropologie for $298.
If the sheepskin chair in the inspiration photo was calling your name, here is one from Mitchell + Gold. Normally $1,900, the club price is $1,520.
Add a beautiful, cozy throw for major comfort. This gorgeous option is warm, ultra-soft and can be enjoyed all around the house! We found this at Anthropologie for $128.
And if the most soft blanket EVER, with the added bonus of being made from 100% recycled products, makes you zen out even more, check out these from NEWLY, available in five colors for $98 each. Details here.
Make your feet happy too! A rug is a must for establishing a space and adding another layer of comfort. We love the subtle color and pattern of this option. We found these at West Elm ranging from $199 to $1,199.
If that sheepskin chair featured above was a little too steep to stomach, consider a sheepskin rug for a more economical way to go. This from One Kings Lane is just $115.
Light up your space with the warm and subdued light of this Himalayan salt lamp. Not only does this boho light fixture provide nature-inspired charm, it literally radiates calming heat! We found this at Urban Outfitters for $34.
And for a floor lamp that promises to go with all decor types, consider this brass lamp from Pottery Barn for $299.
Enjoy your new zen-inducing space and may it bring you peace and calm all year round!
