Tammy Fender has been a trailblazer in the world of plant-based luxury skincare for decades. Known for her handcrafted botanical formulas and deeply personalized approach, she’s earned a loyal following — from celebrity fans like Gwyneth Paltrow to wellness insiders like Melissa Wood-Tepperberg.
Now available at Private Edition in Green Hills, Tammy’s line, Tammy Fender Holistic Skincare, brings her healing touch closer to home. We sat down with Tammy to talk about her roots in clean beauty, her move to Nashville, and how she helps people glow from the inside out.
What prompted your foray into holistic skincare?
I’ve always been someone who connects deeply with nature and feels called to help others. Working hands-on in the treatment room and creating my skincare collection allow me to do both. I’ve been lucky to find a way to merge my passions and build a company around what matters to me most. I love delving into holistic health — how the body, mind, and spirit are intertwined, and how we are interconnected with the plant kingdom and nature as a whole.
What inspired the expansion from Palm Beach into the Nashville market?
Nashville reminds me of Palm Beach many years ago when we first started out there; it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside and full of fascinating people. It just has a real sense of home. In the same way, arriving at Private Edition feels natural. It was recommended by more than one mutual friend and client, and once we visited, it was such an obvious fit for the brand.
You have a devoted following! What are the fan-favorite products?
We’re thrilled that all of our most coveted and award-winning formulas will be available at Private Edition, including the Plant Milk Serum, a soothing botanical emulsion to nurture and protect the skin (especially during the post-care phase after dermatological treatments), and our most popular moisturizing cream, Intensive Repair Balm.
What has surprised you most about life in Nashville since moving here from Palm Beach?
I’m awed by the beauty of the seasons! I’m also consistently discovering new plants, trees, and flowers as we find new hiking trails, and as I’ve been out riding with my daughter. Nashville is surrounded by such a wealth of natural beauty. We’ve also loved the dining scene. There are so many great restaurants and cafes that we have yet to try.
Tell us about your partnership with Blackberry Farm in East Tennessee and the retreats you do there.
My collaboration at Blackberry Farm includes both residencies — where I’m offering facial treatments in the Wellhouse — and multi-day retreats, which I host with Charlotte Hardwick. They allow us to guide small groups of guests through an immersive learning experience as we explore different aspects of holistic wellness and the skin in a very intimate way.
Blackberry Farm is an incredible place, and these opportunities to explore and share always leave me so inspired.
How do you personally unwind and recharge?
For me, taking time in nature, spending time with my family, and being in quiet contemplation are essential. I’m devoted to my early mornings in meditation and prayer, which keep me grounded and fuel my days. Having dinner with my family and getting out into the wild are just as important.
Is there a morning ritual or product you never skip, no matter how busy your day gets?
My morning skincare routine is a daily pleasure, as much as it’s also a necessity. I love the sensorial experience of spritzing with Bulgarian Rose Water after cleansing my face, and taking a moment for a gentle facial massage as I press in ultra-concentrated Quintessential Serum. Grounding myself in a moment of gentle awareness in this way, before starting the day, is essential.
Any local spots you’ve fallen in love with?
I’ve been so captivated by the music scene since we’ve arrived. It’s a true gift to spend time listening to the music of Nashville’s singer-songwriters — the talent is unfathomable. And I’ve found discovering these inspiring venues both relaxing and energizing.
I’ve also loved finding hidden gems like Patina Home & Garden, which has become a favorite spot. Not only is the store beautifully curated, but the owner, Brooke, offers an ongoing series of intriguing workshops and classes. I’m excited to join the farm and garden tour of her Patina Meadow this week as I learn more about the lush local landscape.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
One of the best pieces I’ve received is that there’s no need to rush to the finish line. While there is so much pressure to move quickly in this world, if you love what you do and are happy sharing your passion, you shouldn’t be afraid to slow down and enjoy the process.
I’ve found that this ultimately helps me stay aligned with my vision. And integrity is so key to longevity, especially in a market often swayed by trends. We’ve been slowly building our brand for many years, but by staying true to what matters most, we’ve been able to build something that lasts while also expanding.
Aside from faith, family, and friends, name three things you can’t live without.
Travel, nature, and great sleep. I love traveling to new places to discover with my family. I have an insatiable curiosity. Having access to nature and being able to immerse myself in the plant world is also so important to my spirit. And none of it is possible, of course, without a great night’s sleep, which is my delight. There is nothing like waking up completely refreshed for the day ahead.
