Mickie Quick is known throughout Nashville as the “Baby Whisperer.” With a patient, loving touch, she works with babies, many just home from the hospital, to help them find their sleep rhythms. Since it is Nashville, she has worked with a large variety of families both in and out of the public eye. She works with healthy and sick babies alike, as her love for these kids just bubbles over. She has helped over 800 families here in Nashville, purely based on personal referrals, and we are excited to introduce you to the person behind the late night calming whispers as our FACE of Nashville today!

Where did you grow up?

Brentwood.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

It was not given to me, but it is from a Billy Dean song: “Live each day as though it is borrowed, we are only here for a little while.”

You are known as the Baby Whisperer. What gives you that special touch?

I have a lot of patience, which is a necessity around newborns. And I have been working with newborns for over a 11 years — so lots of experience!

Have you always had an affinity for babies?

Yes, I have always loved babies. When I was 8 years old, I went into foster care and my foster family welcomed lots of foster babies and handicapped kids. So, my “job” was to help with all the babies and handicapped kids! I got my first nanny job in 1994, when I was 19 years old!

For what length of time does a family usually hire you, and how many families at once do you usually work for?

I now have several people who work with me, so we are able to accommodate many families at once. Family needs can range from 3 nights to 3 weeks, or until the baby is sleeping through the night. So, I can be working for 5 families at once…or 30 families! It’s quite a juggling act!

How many families in Nashville do you estimate that you have worked for?

I’ve worked for over 800 families.

Do you see any difference at all between boy and girl babies?

Every baby is so different – not just between boys and girls.

What is the best piece of advice you could give parents of newborns?

Get a good pediatrician, learn your baby’s different crying sounds and call me!

Do you have any advice on the best way to acclimate older children to a newborn?

Older children need to still feel special – just as special as the newborn. When the baby comes home from the hospital, I like for the baby to “give” the older sibling a gift. Screen Shot 2012 04 29 at 10.17.50 AMPin

Do you have any music that you like to play in a baby’s room?

What is your favorite thing about Nashville?

I love hiking at the Warner Parks and am crazy about all of my babies!

Where is your favorite place to eat?

Whiskey Kitchen and Virago.

Do you have any irrational fears?

No, I even love a good scary movie!

Do you have any local businesses that you simply adore and would like to give a shout-out to?

Escape Day Spa, Werthan Granite,The Farm at Natchez Trace, Krank, Come Sit Stay, Corzine & Co, Safe Baby (baby proofing services).

Three words that best describe you?

Funny. Loving. Nice.

Name three things you can’t live without (not friends, family or God).

  • My yellow lab, Sadie
  • Hot tamales and coffee (it’s a tie)
  • Music
