Here are my go-to things that I constantly have on hand and can only get at Kroger. From a certain ice cream flavor, to my favorite spice blend, to some real steals for the value delivered, I hope these help you out on your next grocery trip!
Next time you are at Kroger, this is my short list of ways to save money — their house-brand products are always less than other brands, but you won’t be sacrificing taste or quality! And many times, the swap is a complete and total upgrade. The house brands are Simple Truth, Simple Truth Organic, Private Selection, and Kroger.
Here are my 20 favorite items only found at Kroger (I tried to limit my list to 15, but found it too hard!):
PinThese are delicious and my favorite taters to buy. I like tots better than fries, but if you put “tater” and “tot” together, it’s a trademarked name by Ore-Ida. So, look for these Simple Truth Potato Puffs.PinSO MUCH BETTER than the “other” diced tomato with chilis canned food item that everyone knows to add to melted Velveeta. I promise. This is so dang good. I love to add these fire-roasted, salsa-style diced tomatoes to chili and soups. BONUS: it has a pull-top opening, which many Kroger brand canned foods now have. I love the ease of opening it without a can opener.PinI far prefer shaved parmesan to any other way it comes. This Private Selection tub of shaved parmesan is a constant in our refrigerator.PinNinety percent of the frozen vegetables I buy are Kroger brand, and you will always find both of these in our freezer: baby lima beans and cut okra.PinButter lettuces are my favorite; these are organic, and the re-seal lid actually works! When working from home, this container will commonly turn into my lunch bowl when I’m making a salad (typically when there’s about half left).PinI’m one of those unlucky gluten-free people who really wishes she were not. But these gluten-free breads from Kroger, under their Simple Truth brand, are shockingly good! It’s the best mass-produced gluten-free “bag bread” I have found. You can find it in the frozen food section.PinKroger owns Laura’s Lean Beef, which has been my ground beef of choice for as long as I can remember. I don’t buy meat with hormones or antibiotics.PinThis air-chilled, Simple Truth Organic chicken is the chicken I typically buy. It tastes good, and I only buy organic chicken. I usually buy this and some chicken thighs and cook them during the week.PinI like to have dill, mint, Italian parsley, and cilantro on hand, and these Simple Truth Organic herbs are how I buy herbs unless it’s summer and I have them growing.PinThese are new, at least to me, but I had to fit them in here as they are SO good! I highly suggest these smokey, slightly spicy Chipotle Pepper Almonds by Simple Truth.PinI always, always, always have these olives in my refrigerator with a backup in my pantry. Did I say always? Always.PinThis is my second favorite gluten-free pizza. My first is Against The Grain, but it’s pretty high calorie. When I want a pizza to cook at home that isn’t as high in calories, I pick up a Simple Truth Pizza. All the flavors are really good, and when you want a pizza, nothing else will do, will it? Pro tip: grill it on a Big Green Egg (or a similar grill), and you’ll end up with one truly amazing pizza.PinAs opposed to the sea salt flavor, I far prefer these Sea Salt & Pepper Gluten-Free Rice & Almond Crackers. I have some buffalo-flavored ones that I haven’t tried yet, but I’m hopeful they will be just as good as they sound! These are all by Simple Truth.PinI know it may sound nuts, but my favorite “mass-produced” hummus is this Simple Truth Organic one. I like the original flavor. Try it and see … I’m pretty sure you’ll also be convinced.PinFor my boxed stocks and broths, I reach for Simple Truth Organic. I usually have four to six boxes at a time in my pantry, including beef and chicken. Having these on hand allows me to cook all sorts of things on a whim.PinI love tofu salad (think chicken or egg salad but with tofu), and this is what I use to make it. Extra firm, always.PinI like to put heavy whipping cream in my coffee, and this is what I choose. It’s organic and less expensive than the other options.PinI always have spray olive oil and spray avocado oil on hand, and I buy the Simple Truth Organic brand for both.PinMost of my spices are either Simple Truth Organic or Private Selection, and the Kroger branded spice blends are GREAT. This Za’atar blend has been my favorite for the past year. I use it on everything from whipped feta, to chicken, to salads, to grilled vegetables, to marinades, and salad dressings.PinMy hands down, ride-or-die ice cream is Kroger Peppermint. Kroger makes excellent ice creams, but this flavor is, in my opinion, so much better than any other peppermint ice cream I’ve ever had. Days before writing this article, I found a half gallon on a road trip when I stopped by the Cookeville, TN, Kroger. So, I got to eat some while writing this. Yum! Life is good.
I hope these suggestions help you find your favorite Kroger brands on your next grocery outing!
