Wish you could just wear yoga pants everywhere? Well, you can! In this edition of What to Wear, stylist Jamie Yarbrough of Style By Jamie Lea put together nine fabulous outfits for three upcoming February events. She lets us in on the styling secrets for taking the trendy “athleisure” look from the yoga mat to a night out on the town. So you’ll not only look chic, but also feel comfortable as you tackle this month’s social events. Take it away, Jamie!
Casual wear has taken the fashion industry by storm in the past several years. And with celebrities like Kate Hudson, Beyoncé, Jessica Simpson and more launching their own “athleisure” lines left and right, it seems the trend is here to stay. Athleisure is clothing that is intended to be worn while working out, but can also be worn for other daily activities, such as work and social events. Who would have ever thought athletic wear would become the everyday norm?! Of course, appropriately styling your athleisure wear is key to making it a chic, everyday look, as opposed to a gym uniform. Cover what needs to be covered — y’all know what I mean! — and add the right shoes and thoughtfully layered accessories to make your outfit complete.
To prove how savvy styling can make athleisure suitable for almost any occasion, I’ve created some outfits from Hot Yoga Plus, Chocolat and Heather Boutique and Spa, along with some fabulous accessories from Eclectic Eye and Joseph! Our models this month are Hot Yoga Plus manager and instructor Rachel Russ and instructors Laura Gray McCann and Margaux Bolton. These fabulous yogis show us how easy it is to go from studio to soirée in style, while also impressing us with their astounding yoga poses!
The Event: Power Yoga Class at Hot Yoga Plus
- February 1, 2017
- 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

What better way to put these athleisure looks to the test than with a power yoga class? In the Power Yoga class at Hot Yoga Plus, instructor Margaux Bolton takes you through a smooth, continuous set of movements that deepen the breath, develop core strength, increase endurance and challenge balance and flexibility. You will leave these classes sweaty, but soul-nourished, and with renewed mental and physical energy. Namasté to that!

What to wear? The yoga studio will be heated between 80 and 90 degrees, so pure workout-level athleisure wear is key, and there is a surprising variety of choices around town with great options. Hot Yoga Plus, of course, is a great place for yoga clothing and accessories, and while you might not think to look for athleisure at Heather Boutique and Spa and Chocolat, both boutiques have great options to take you from your workout to other activities throughout your day.
