MEET OUR MODELS
Annie Yoho was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 after a routine mammogram. The diagnosis came as a surprise since sheβs been a fitness trainer for decades and did not have a history of breast cancer in her family. Annie underwent a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, continuing to run and train during her treatment. Her faith and fitness played a huge part in her recovery. Today sheβs a fitness trainer for the LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA, where she helps cancer survivors regain strength and confidence after treatment.
Mary Katherine Larmee has been a breast cancer survivor for 28 years. She likes to take part in the October Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities in our community because they give her the opportunity to network with other women experiencing this diagnosis and give her the opportunity to show them that she is an example that you can survive and live a long healthy life after diagnosis and treatment.
JessicaΒ Denson Van Hoy takes part in the Power of Pink fundraising event every October, which is hosted by the News and Tribune in Southern Indiana. She shares, βIf you or are a loved one are facing cancer, just remember, itβs different for everyone. Whatever you feel β whether itβs frustration, fear, anger, sadnessΒ β whatever it may be, itβs okay. I know people will say βyouβre so strong, you can do this,β but itβs okay to feel weak sometimes and let others support you. Itβs okay to ask for help and tell people what you need. Most of your friends and family just want to know how to help you β just tell them.β
Edna Campbell is a breast cancer survivor who also participates in the LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA.
