I know it’s July, but today I want to talk to you about two things that don’t really scream “summer.” One you can use now, and the other you can save for later. They are luggage and jackets. And not just any luggage and jackets, the Filson brand.
Recently, I have listened to two people from two very different walks of life extoll the virtues of this brand. One is a female artist, the other a male attorney. When a product can cross different demographics and still get praise, then it’s worthy of investigation.
Filson is a company dating back to 1897 that makes high quality outdoor gear. Founder C.C. Wilson in Seattle, Washington, started out making severe weather protection goods for people during the Klondike Gold Rush (that would be Alaska). His motto was “Might As Well Have The Best,” and the quality of his work has lasted for 110 years. In 2008, Filson started designing clothes for women. Â
What they are really known and loved for with StyleBlueprint readers is their luggage–briefcases, totes, duffles, carry-ons, computer bags, all of which come highly recommended. Across the board, people say that this is a bag you buy for a lifetime. They are also praised for their organization. For example, the carry on bags have a place for your clothes and your laptop, all separated.
I asked my female artist friend about Filson, and this was her response:
My male attorney friend has the Small Duffle, the Wheeled Carry On bag and the Money Clip wallet.
Beyond the luggage, their jackets are fitted and feminine, while still being of the highest quality, warm and durable. I realize it’s July, but just I’m just planting the seed. You’re going to need to start saving up for these little gems. Considering it was cold in Louisville until May, this would be a good investment.
All of these jackets can be found here:Â www.filson.com/womens

So I realize that it is not sexy to be talking about luggage or outerwear, especially in July. But there is nothing better than a bag or a jacket that works and does its job time and time again. These items do not come cheap; they are definitely an investment piece. But a one-time investment over buying a new carry-on each year or a new coat is worth it. Â
I would suggest ordering online or you can check out their website to find a dealer near you here:Â www.filson.com/dealer-locator.
(And no, I’m not getting paid by Filson to write this. But I’ll gladly try out a carry-on in navy if anyone from the company is reading this!)
