Fondly dubbed “Tails on the Trail,” the Tennessee Whiskey Trail recently introduced its “Pawsport” program! As if the Whiskey Trail wasn’t already reason enough to pack up the car and hit the pavement, you’re in for a treat if you love traveling with your pooch. The original 28-stop trail has officially been pup-ified, with 23 of the stops now catering to humans and canines.
According to Forbes, 97% of pet owners consider their pets part of the family … so why leave them at home? With that in mind, the TN Whiskey Trail launched its new digital “Pawsport” program in the spring. Now, dog owners can forgo the dog-sitter and travel with the whole gang.
“The 21-stop trail explores the best of Tennessee distilleries that welcome four-legged guests and their humans,” says Executive Director Charity Toombs. “As you wag your way along the Tennessee Whiskey TAIL, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into the history and traditions that have shaped this beloved spirit. But it’s not just about the whiskey; it’s about the experience, so we invite guests and pets to take their time and sniff out the scents and sounds of each small town.”
And there’s plenty to keep you and your pup busy as you tour. From cocktails to corn hole, each of the trail’s distillery stops offers up its own breed of fun. And what can our furry friends look forward to while we sip? “There’s live music, pet-friendly patios, pet-centric shopping at several distilleries, outdoor lawn games, breezy porches for summer sips, and even pup-focused cocktails like Big Machine’s ‘Puptini,'” Charity tells us.
Adding to the excitement and adventure, visitors and pets who visit 12 distilleries or more will receive a pup prize that includes a dog kerchief and a squeaky tennis ball. “If technology is your thing, download the official TN Whiskey Trail mobile passport, then collect stamps and poker chips digitally by ‘checking in’ to distilleries along the Trail,” says Charity. “Once you’ve visited them all, you’ll be able to send in your confirmation, and we’ll send you your prize, a commemorative poker set.”
We’d be remiss not to mention that you can still enjoy the Tennessee Whiskey Trail even if you aren’t traveling with your pet — the Whiskey Trail’s original passport program is still in effect.
“You can experience the TN Whiskey Trail one of two ways,” Charity explains. “For those who like to hold something in their hand, pick up a hard copy of the official TN Whiskey Trail Passport at any one of the participating distilleries. Start collecting stamps and poker chips with each distillery visit, and once you’ve visited them all, redeem your completed passport for a gift.”
If you’re curious about the stipulations for bringing your dog along, Charity offers, “Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome. But remember, your human needs to be 21+ to tag along. After all, someone’s gotta handle the leash and the ID!”
