16 Memphis Events & Happenings: August 2026

Back-to-school season is gearing up, but Memphis isn’t slowing down just yet! There’s still plenty of fun happening — and plenty of time for one last summer outing with the family or a girls’ night out on the town. Check out these upcoming Memphis events August has on offer, and add one (or all) to your calendar.

August 1, 2026: Back-to-School Celebration

The City of Lakeland is sending summer off in style with a free Back-to-School Celebration featuring a giant water slide, outdoor games, food trucks, prizes, and an outdoor showing of Monsters University. August 1, 2026: Hattiloo Season 20 Kickoff Block Party

Hattiloo Theatre is celebrating two decades of storytelling with a community block party in Overton Square. The celebration includes live entertainment, food, giveaways, performances, and a Youth Talent Show showcasing local performers. You can register for the event HERE.

August 4 – 9 & 18 – 23, 2026:  Memphis Redbirds Baseball Home Games

August 6, 2026: Cooper-Young Night Out

On the first Thursday of every month, the Cooper-Young neighborhood hosts live music, happy-hour specials, sidewalk sales, art exhibits, restaurant deals, and plenty of local shopping. August 7, 2026: Family Game Night

Trade your daily screen time for some board games at the Tipton County Museum. Family Game Night is a free, come-and-go event that offers games for all ages. The fun runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Additional details are available HERE.

August 8, 2026: Like You Film Club CatVideoFest 2026

Adorable cats are taking over the big screen during CatVideoFest 2026! Hosted by Like You Film Club, this festival features viral cat videos and animations — all while supporting Mewtopia Cat Rescue. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children. moshmemphis.com

August 8, 2026: Summer Splash at Overton Park

Overton Park Conservancy transforms the Greensward into a giant splash zone with free water slides to beat the August heat. Registration is not required — all you need to bring is a towel. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more about it at overtonpark.org

August 8 – 16, 2026: Elvis Week

August 14, 2026: Zoo Brew

One of Memphis Zoo’s favorite adults-only events makes a triumphant return after several years! Zoo Brew offers a selection of craft beer from local, regional, and national breweries, plus live music, lawn games, animal exhibits, and plenty of opportunities to explore the Zoo after hours.
