Some people move to Nashville and quickly become part of its fabric. Marci Houff is one of them. Since arriving in 2011 from Ohio, she’s poured herself into the city through philanthropy, advocacy, and a deep love for the arts. A 17-year ovarian cancer survivor and founder of Chic Awearness, Marci has helped raise more than one million dollars for research and support programs. Now, as co-chair of the 2026 Nashville Symphony Fashion Show, she’s continuing to channel that passion into something meaningful.

What first connected you to the Nashville community?

I am a proud Ohioan and have lived in Nashville since 2011. Although I love the South, it’s hard to ever lose my Midwestern ways. We relocated to Nashville when my husband was asked to become CEO of a large healthcare company. It was a great decision! We love our Nashville community.

You’re an ovarian cancer survivor and the founder of Chic Awearness, which has raised more than one million dollars. Can you share more about your journey and your organization?

As a 17-year survivor of late-stage ovarian cancer, I am truly one of the lucky ones. A small group of committed girlfriends and I created Chic Awearness in 2013 to let women know about the signs and symptoms of this deadly disease while raising funds for research and a mentoring program. StyleBlueprint’s own Liza Graves was our first emcee!

We now have a board of very committed and talented women, many touched by ovarian cancer. Working in collaboration with the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, we are funding very promising ovarian cancer grants and our mentoring program, Woman to Woman. During my work with Chic Awearness, I have lost seven women who fought ovarian cancer hard, yet did not survive. All were diagnosed in the later stages, which has to change.

You’re co-chairing the 2026 Symphony Fashion Show alongside Laura Kimbrell. What made you say yes to taking on that role?

It was a big YES. This is the one event I have attended every year since moving to Nashville. I am so honored to co-chair this important event with my wonderful friend Laura and new Executive Chair, Ashley Rosen.

This year’s show will feature Oscar de la Renta, which is such an iconic fashion house.

What excites you most about bringing Oscar de la Renta to the Schermerhorn?

The Symphony Fashion Show is the only way to see this caliber of couture fashion in Nashville. It has been a 14-year wait to see Oscar de la Renta on the Symphony runway again!

We have been privy to a peek at the Oscar Fall 2026 collection, and it will not disappoint. From the start of the event to the finish, excitement, glamour, and inspiration are abundant. Our entertainer this year is the CMA reigning Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson. This is an event you absolutely don’t want to miss!

Beyond the glamour of the runway, this event plays a critical role in supporting the Symphony’s educational and community programs. Can you tell us more about that?

The Accelerando program really touches the heart of all of us. Music plays such an important role in society, and the thought of allowing talented students not to perfect their craft is a huge loss.

This program reaches many student musicians in underserved areas who otherwise would not be given the opportunity to receive one-on-one training or college scholarships to study music. Accelerando has helped graduating students secure (on average) $122,000 to further their musical education. That’s a benefit to orchestras around the world.

Outside of galas and fundraisers, what does a perfect day look like for you?

I love to play golf. While I am a very average golfer, I enjoy the camaraderie, the challenge, and the ability to be outdoors for four-plus hours with friends. Golf is the only sport I have ever played, and for those thinking about it, it is never too late to learn.

Nashville is constantly evolving. What do you love most about being part of this city right now?

How lucky are we to be living in the “it” city?! I love all the new people moving here and all that they bring — new restaurants, hotels, and so many great ideas.

When life gets especially full, what helps you stay grounded?

My husband and daughter have always supported me in my endeavors. Routine is my therapy. I am an early riser: I read my devotional, The Tennessean, emails, and do two puzzles. In that order. Can’t change the order!

What is one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I am never without lipstick. (All my friends know this already.)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Two pieces: “Interested is interesting,” and “Pretty is as pretty does.” Both are from my parents.

LIGHTNING ROUND

What’s the most memorable recent meal you had in Nashville? [My husband] and I recently discovered Il Forno in Wedgewood-Houston. What started as a food truck is now a fabulous restaurant. I rarely find meat ravioli, and they had a delicious version.

What’s your favorite “hidden gem” in Nashville? The wonderful mother-daughter-owned boutique Alice, in West Nashville. Their clothes are stylish and very unique.

What self-care item can’t you live without? My morning “routine”!

What are three things you cannot live without?
Our pets (Leo and Pandora), pizza, and lipstick, of course.
