As you lean into fall fashion, consider updating your collection of fall shoes with fresh styles that can instantly update and uplevel your outfits. Many of this season’s shoe trends feel quite classic but with modern touches, meaning they will last for years to come. As a style coach, I’ve loved sharing these shoe silhouettes with my clients, and I know you will enjoy them too.

1. Mary Janes
We’ve seen Mary Jane-style flats and heels the past several seasons, and they are here to stay! There are iterations for every personal style, from ballet slipper-inspired options (like this pair from Dolce Vita) to bolder iterations in this season’s must-have leopard print (like this pair on Shopbop).
The Mary Jane can make for the perfect transition-weather or fall-in-the-South shoe, as many options are mesh, woven, or made from lightweight materials.

2. Knee-High Heeled Boots
There was a nostalgic nod to the ’80s on the fall 2025 runways in the form of the slouchy heeled boot. Tall, heeled boots are a fall and winter staple, and this season, the slouchy style is in vogue (as seen in this J.Crew pair)!
Whether leather or suede, block heel or kitten heel, black or brown, there are so many options out there. Wear them with a knee-high or midi-length dress or skirt when the weather turns cold. They offer warmth and a current look.

3. Pointed Toe Pump
The pump has historically been reserved for the workplace. And now, we’re seeing a wide variety of heel heights, colors, strap additions (like these by J.Crew that have a Mary Jane look), and prints that are making this once traditional shoe fun and versatile!
While the pump still looks chic with your classic dress, don’t be afraid to rock a pump with a pair of full-length, wide-leg, or boot-cut jeans for added flair.

4. Clog
The clog, an often-overlooked shoe, has made a notable comeback in recent years. Clogs can be quite cozy for the winter, with many offering a shearling lining (like these from Sézane).
They are a great casual boot alternative with jeans and cords. They are also a heavier shoe, so keep the rest of your outfit balanced with a sweater, wide-leg jeans, or an A-line dress.

5. Ballet Flats
The classic ballet flat is here to stay, but with a modern update! The ballet flat has been gradually covering more of the foot, creating a more interesting and architectural silhouette (like these by Madewell).
It’s très chic with a pair of straight-leg jeans or even a midi skirt or dress for a very classic French-girl vibe.

6. Sleek Loafers
Loafers are a timeless shoe, but designers reimagine them in fresh new ways every season. In the past few years, we’ve seen clunky, log-soled options, and now we are seeing a sleeker style with more longevity.
These loafers look particularly fresh and versatile in fall hues like chocolate brown, camel, and burgundy (like these from Ann Taylor).
Style your loafers with cropped wide-leg or straight-leg jeans and pants for an easy, everyday look.

7. Brown Sneakers
Sneakers are a staple in my clients’ wardrobes, and this season, we are adding a brown option to the mix! With so many shades of brown entering our closets, we need a shoe to match.
From camel (like these Converse sneakers) to caramel or chocolate, choose the shade of brown that best complements the neutrals in your own closet.

8. High-Shaft Ankle Booties
One of the biggest silhouette changes in fall and winter shoes is the ankle bootie. For years, we wore them with a lower profile (meaning the bootie hit at a lower place on the leg). And now, those booties can be replaced with one that comes up higher on the leg (also called “high-shaft”).
They not only look current, but they are functional and fit nicely underneath a wide-leg, straight-leg, or boot-cut jean. We no longer want skin showing between the bootie and the jeans or pants, so the high-shaft bootie solves that style problem! I also encourage my clients to get the most cost-per-wear out of their booties by wearing them with midi-length dresses and skirts.
These ankle booties can be casual, with a block heel (like these from J.McLaughlin), or dressier, with a pointed toe and kitten heel (like these from Madewell).

9. Leopard Print Anything
While leopard print is one that everyone knows, it’s out in full force this season. From sneakers to pumps to loafers (like these from Gentle Souls), it’s the perfect pop in a sea of neutrals.
Be sure to select a leopard print shoe in a neutral color that best matches your wardrobe. For example, if I have a client who wears a lot of black, I suggest pairing it with leopard print that incorporates black. If a client wears more brown tones, we opt for a brown-spotted leopard print.
