Memphis bakeries are having a moment. From nearly 50-year-old French shops and beloved neighborhood cookie spots to Taiwanese pastries, Venezuelan desserts, and a brand-new downtown pie place, there’s always something exciting coming out of the 901. Here are some longtime local favorites and some newer spots worth checking out.

Longstanding Local Favorites

La Baguette French Bread and Pastry Shop

This French-inspired bakery has been a Memphis institution since 1976 — and for good reason! Its case is filled with classics (baguettes, croissants, petit fours, cakes, and other French pastries), while its café menu makes it a favorite destination for lunch, too. It’s the perfect stop for authentic French flavors right here in town. Bon appétit!

Muddy’s Bake Shop

Neighborhood: Midtown
More Info: muddysbakeshop.com

Muddy’s may have new owners, but its Memphis legacy isn’t going anywhere. Kat Gordon opened the bakery on Leap Day 2008, and after more than 18 years, she passed the business to local entrepreneurs Micah Dempsey and Stacy Hinkle of Belltower in April 2026.

The good news for Muddy’s devotees? The new owners plan to keep everything you love about the original — from the recipes to the brand and the staff. In other words, you’ll still find signature treats like the Prozac cupcake, Cocoa Crackle Pie, and all your seasonal favorites.
