There’s something special about seeing Graceland through fresh eyes. Although I’m a lifelong Memphian, my last visit was as a child. With Elvis Week right around the corner, it felt like the perfect excuse to revisit one of Memphis’s most iconic landmarks. Returning as an adult gave me a better appreciation for the history and legacy of Elvis Presley.

His cultural influence continues to draw fans from around the world during Elvis Week. Inspired by his most famous snack combinations: peanut butter and banana, I headed to the kitchen to create an easy pound cake recipe that is truly fit for the King!

Peanut Butter + Banana: An Elvis Favorite

When it comes to Elvis’s favorite foods, the most iconic would have to be his peanut butter and banana sandwich. During Elvis Week, many restaurants in Memphis recreate the flavorful combination. While my Peanut Butter Banana Pound Cake recipe is not a replica, it still captures those same nostalgic flavors in a rich Southern dessert. Moist and decadent banana cake, crunchy peanut butter buttercream, and rich chocolate ganache come together in a recipe that is perfect for paying tribute to Memphis’s most legendary son.

Chocolate Ganache

  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Pound Cake Method:

  • Preheat oven to 350F and grease a standard loaf pan or a small bundt cake pan with baking spray
  • Sift dry ingredients into one bowl: all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon
  • Using a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar together until fully combined
  • Add eggs and vanilla gradually and make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl between additions
  • Mix in mashed banana and sour cream on medium speed until completely smooth
  • Gently fold in dry ingredients. Do not overmix!
  • Pour batter into greased cake pan
  • Bake at 350F for approximately 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • Cream butter with the paddle attachment until light and fluffy
  • Add peanut butter and beat until smooth
  • Mix in vanilla and salt
  • Gradually add half of the powdered sugar and half of the heavy cream
  • Scrape the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and repeat
  • Once all of the powdered sugar and heavy cream is added, mix on medium-high for about 5 minutes

Chocolate Ganache Method

  • Bring heavy cream to a boil in a small pot, then immediately turn it down and allow to simmer for three minutes.
  • Place chocolate in a metal bowl and pour the heavy cream over the chocolate
  • Wrap the bowl in plastic wrap and allow to sit for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the plastic and whisk until completely smooth and chocolate has thickened

Assembly

  • Place the pound cake on a cake plate or board
  • Pour chocolate ganache into a plastic squeeze bottle and drizzle over the poundcake
  • Pipe floral designs on the pound cake with the peanut butter buttercream
  • Finish with decorative banana chips
