Editor note: After seeing friend (and previous SB FACE of Nashville) Betsy Taylor’s words of wisdom, ’28 important rules to teach your daughter,’ that she typed out on a Facebook update, we reached out to her to see if StyleBlueprint could share this list. She agreed, and we are so happy to share it with you today as it made us laugh, cry and most of all, feel closer to both our moms and our daughters … and even our dads. Thank you, Betsy!

#1: Travel light through life. Keep only what you need.

#2: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

#3: Five-second rule. It’s just dirt. There are worse things in a fast food cheeseburger.

#4: You’re a woman. You don’t NEED a man — but it’s okay to want the right one.

#5: It’s okay to cry when you’re hurt. It’s also okay to smash (some) things; but, wash your face, clean your mess and get up off the floor when you’re done. You don’t belong down there.

#6: Happiness is not a permanent state; it takes intentional effort every day.

#7: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice.

#8: Never, ever walk through an alley alone!

#9: Be less sugar, more spice, and only as nice as you’re able to without compromising yourself.

#10: If you can’t smile with your eyes, don’t smile. Insincerity is nothing to aspire to.

#11: Never lie to yourself.

#12: Your body, your rules.

#13: CAN’T is a cop-out — set your goals high.

#14: Ask for what you want. The worst thing they can say is ‘no.’

#15: Wish on stars and dandelions, then get to WORK to make them happen.

#16: Stay as sweet as you are.

#17: Fall in love with music, memories, literature, food and travel.

#18: Take lots of pictures along the way.

#19: Say ‘Please,’ ‘Thank you,’ and ‘I’m sorry’ whenever the situation warrants it.

#20: Naps are for grown-ups, too.

#21: You’re AMAZING! Don’t let anyone ever make you feel you’re not. If someone does … walk away. You deserve better. Never forget that!

#22: Question everything, except your own INTUITION.

#23: You have enough; you are enough.

#24: No matter where you are, you can always come home … ALWAYS!!

#25: No one will ever LOVE YOU more than I do.

#26: Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

#27: Be kind; treat others how you would like them to treat you.

#28: If in doubt, remember whose daughter you are, and straighten your crown.

If this list resonated with you, too, please share on Facebook to spread the love!
