Farm to Table: Art, Food, and Identity in the Age of Impressionism at Frist Art Museum
This exhibition examines the connections between art, gastronomy, and national identity in late 19th-century France, beginning with the 1870 food crisis during the Prussian siege of Paris. Featuring approximately 50 works by artists like Rosa Bonheur, Claude Monet, and Camille Pissarro, the collection explores themes of food production, preparation, and consumption, as well as their ties to gender, labor, and class. The exhibition includes scenes of rural farms, urban markets, and the café culture of the era, offering a rich portrayal of life during the age of Impressionism.
