Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories

Quilts have long been celebrated as a timeless and democratic art form, evolving alongside United States history and reflecting the hands and minds of many makers. This powerful exhibition explores both the aesthetic and technical mastery of quilting while delving into the personal stories behind the craft. Featuring nearly 50 quilts and coverlets dating from the 18th century to 2021, the exhibition is organized into compelling themes such as “Unseen Hands,” “Modern Myths,” and “Making a Difference.” Works by Americans of European ancestry are presented alongside those made by Black and Indigenous Americans, offering a richly layered narrative of shared and contested history. The exhibition will be on view from May 31 through September 12, 2025.
