Adult ARTlab: Trapunto
The Frist Art Museum will host a quilting workshop on Saturday, September 13, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., focusing on the Italian quilting technique known as trapunto. Suitable for all levels of needleworkers, the class introduces participants to this raised design method, derived from the Italian word “to embroider,” which combines heavy stitching in flat areas with corded channels to create dimension. The technique is highlighted in one of the quilts featured in Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Attendees will practice basic hand stitches to form designs and insert cording to produce textured quilt blocks. All materials are provided, though participants may bring a thimble if preferred.
Registration is required. Admission is $10 for members and $30 for not-yet-members, which includes gallery access and parking. More details HERE.
