June will be here next week, Birmingham! Can you believe we’re nearly halfway through 2018? It’s officially time to celebrate the arrival of summer in the Magic City, and this June there are plenty of fantastic events to get you excited for the season. For this edition of “What to Wear,” we pulled style suggestions from two of our favorite local boutiques, The Clothes Tree by Deborah and Zoco Boutique, to inspire your fashion choices for three fabulous upcoming events: Slicefest, Art on the Rocks and the U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Shoal Creek.
Today’s models are two hardworking ladies from the USGA who are helping to make this year’s U.S. Women’s Open a hole-in-one. Jenna Harmer is this year’s Championship Coordinator. She oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the volunteer program, a 1,000+ group who will assist with the duties of over 17 volunteer committees throughout the championship weekend. “This is so exciting not only for the state and for the city of Birmingham, but also for a place like Shoal Creek that has such rich championship golf history,” says Jenna. “I am extremely proud and honored to be a part of this team, and I look forward to what I know is going to be a fantastic week of golf for the players, fans, volunteers and everyone else involved.”
Player Services intern Taylor Holly will assist with the player registration process as well as player hospitality. Essentially, Taylor is the go-to girl for answering any questions about the surrounding area, the championship play and will offer support to all 156 of this year’s golfers. “I am really excited to see a big world championship come to Alabama and make history, especially with it being the U.S. Women’s Open Championship,” Taylor shares. “I think that our volunteers are going to make this year extra special. They are really wanting to show everyone just how great Birmingham and Alabama are, as well as showing true Southern hospitality.”
Our stunning backdrop is the idyllic Shoal Creek Community, where the Women’s Open will take place. This luxurious community was founded 40 years ago with a world-class golf course at its center. Now, with more than 100 residences, Shoal Creek is an enclave of walking trails, lakes for fishing and kayaking, state-of-the-art horse stables and stunning move-in ready homes, including in the beautiful new development, Troon Hamlet, which we had the opportunity to explore during this photo shoot.

Attendees will enjoy the ultimate test in women’s golf for 156 of the best female players in the world with a focus on shot-making, course management and physical and mental endurance. What to Wear: For this event, we suggest cool, comfortable and lightweight clothing. Our models, Taylor and Jenna, are rocking ensembles from USGA, which will be available for purchase at the U.S. Women’s Open. A breezy skirt paired with the USGA polo, tennis shoes and a light jacket for layering is the perfect outfit for enjoying this event.

Art on the Rocks is back for its 14th year of summer celebration! This is a great and unique option for date night or an evening out with the girls. See Birmingham through a different light at this art-forward event.
What to Wear: Take advantage of the vibrant artistic atmosphere at this event by wearing a statement style. We teamed up with the fashion gurus at The Clothes Tree by Deborah to come up with four fabulous looks that will make you feel amazing. We suggest a dress or skirt in a vibrant shade with unexpected details, like ruffles, feathers or standout accessories. Don’t hold back — this is the event for dressing creatively!
