Nestled in the heart of Sylvan Park, this 1920s craftsman home has been thoughtfully restored by Home Nashville of Zeitlin Sotheby’s International Realty, a real estate and interior design firm founded by mother-daughter duo Michelle and Mary-Margaret Glass. With help from the builders at Alfrey Property Group, the result is a stunning four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom home boasting gleaming hardwood floors, designer lighting, stunning cabinetry, and handmade tile.
As the designer at Home Nashville of Zeitlin Sotheby’s International Realty, Mary-Margaret says her vision for this home was to bring it back to life while adding modern luxury for the new owners. “Nashville’s market is so into new construction, which is causing us to lose a lot of homes with character,” she explains. “I wanted people to see that you can have an old home [that has the] feeling of a new home.”
Mary-Margaret adds that one of her primary design goals during this project was to maintain an older, weathered look throughout the home. One of the ways she achieved this was by selecting the right finishes, including a kitchen faucet from Rohl, a brand that Mary-Margaret says specializes in making traditional faucets that are similar to what you would see in an old English manor. “Nothing is perfectly straight in the house when it comes to the finishes,” she adds. “That bridges the gap when incorporating that old feeling into this updated home.”
While she wasn’t able to repurpose many of the home’s original features during the renovation, Mary-Margaret was able to reuse the trim in the front two rooms and maintain the brass motif and original brick surrounding the fireplace. When new elements were added, they were done so through careful consideration and replicated to match original pieces whenever possible. “The home has undergone a beautiful renovation, and Mary-Margaret has done an amazing job stewarding the property forward,” adds Michelle.

“There’s a real appreciation in [Sylvan Park] for preserving these houses and bringing them to life,” says Michelle of the neighborhood where the home is located. “It’s almost like a small village within a rapidly growing city.”
Mary-Margaret says her favorite room in the home is the kitchen, equipped with a spacious island, sleek white countertops, stainless steel appliances, and plenty of storage space. Before receiving its facelift, Mary-Margaret says the space was like a shoebox with little room to move about or host gatherings. “Now it’s this spacious kitchen where you can entertain, and it just feels so good in there,” she tells us.
Another standout feature in the home is the flooring in the primary bathroom. Made out of terracotta, the floor features a unique pattern that adds to the weathered look and calls back to its history. “The bathroom has this old terracotta floor, so nothing on it is perfect,” says Mary-Margaret. “I love it for that reason.”
When remodeling the home, Mary-Margaret says many neighbors stopped by to thank them for saving the home. Despite receiving an offer to buy the house as-is before the renovation, Mary-Margaret declined. “I knew we couldn’t sell it because it would just be torn down, and something new would be built,” she says. “It was fun to see the neighbors appreciate that we were preserving the history of Sylvan Park, and we weren’t changing the feel of this old home.”
In addition to the house itself, Mary-Margaret says its location in Sylvan Park is another reason this home is so unique. The charming Nashville neighborhood is based on community. In fact, every Friday night during the summer, there’s a concert hosted at a neighbor’s house. There are also plenty of delicious dining options nearby, including McCabe Pub, answer., Edley’s Bar-B-Que, and more. Mary-Margaret adds, “It’s just a really great location, and the ideal buyer will have to love the old Americana feel where you have lots of neighbors and events going on all of the time.”
The design of this renovated craftsman home honors old Nashville while incorporating luxurious modern touches through close attention to detail.
