Today, StyleBlueprint Louisville Editor Heidi Potter shares a thought or two about one of her favorite summer wardrobe staples:
Most days during the summer, when I’m not wearing a swimsuit coverup or workout clothes, you’ll find me wearing a peasant top or a tunic. I’ve often wondered what the difference is between a peasant top and a tunic–they seem more or less like the same thing. A little research led me to one answer: length. On the whole, peasant tops are shorter than tunics. All I know for certain is that they are comfortable and cool.
Most retailers and designers offer some sort of a peasant top, with Anthropologie cornering the market on them. They have an entire tab on their website devoted to peasant tops: www.anthropologie.com.
Here are some great looking tops that you can wear not just in the summer, but year-round:
J. Crew Factory Paisley Tunic
This top is flame red and that’s why I love it. You could definitely wear this year-round–in the summer with shorts, in the fall/winter with jeans. factory.jcrew.com
Anthropologie’s Cassis Peasant Top
Like I mentioned before, Anthropologie practically specializes in these tops. The neckline and longer sleeves are a standout here and would work well for a casual or dressy look. www.anthropologie.com
Nira Geo Embroidered Peasant Top from Joie
Here is a long-sleeved top that can be worn year round from Joie. www.zappos.com
Coral Embroidered Peasant Top by Maison Scotch
I’ll take this entire outfit, including her lipstick color and legs too please. piperlime.gap.com
Sofi Embroidered Eyelet Peasant Top in Yellow by Lucky Brand
This top looks great with the yellow accents and the cute messy ponytail. shop.nordstrom.com
Watson Peasant Top by Johnny WasÂ
This beige top is a nice break from all the white tops we’ve been seeing. Plus, I love the embroidery and sleeves. www.johnnywas.com
Irina Embroidered Peasant Blouse by BCBGÂ
Love the dark color of this blouse with the red embroidery and even the striped shorts. dhaasuproducts.com
Anthropologie’s Marari TopÂ
Another hit from Anthropologie, this one with colored tassels. www.anthropologie.com

12th St by Cynthia Vincent
While I’m not sure if this necessarily qualifes as a peasant top, I wanted to show a dressier fabric. www.revolveclothing.com
Alice + Olivia Stance Sheer Overlay Blouse, $178
Again, I wanted to show a dressier option and loved the beige sheer beauty of this top by Alice + Olivia. www.neimanmarcus.com
