There are only 29 days and (hopefully) only a few chill-you-to-the-bone days standing between us and spring. While warm weather and longer days are near, fresh flowers keep us from sinking into a late winter slump until we see the arrival of the new season. Local flower shops are hustling beautiful blooms to keep spirits high — a beautiful reprieve from the monotone landscape and brisk chill of winter. Today, we share seven of our favorite local places for fresh-cut flowers and memorable arrangements. Whether you’re looking to treat that someone special in your life, or you simply need a quick pick me up, make these flower shops your go-to destinations. We have a handful of different shops represented, from flower truck to wholesaler and from East Nashville to West Nashville and North Nashville to South Nashville!
In March of 2016, Amelia’s Flower Truck began offering fresh flowers on the streets of Nashville. Owner Mattie wanted to bring the easy access to flowers found in most big cities, such as New York, London, Paris and Milan, to Music City. The one-truck business expanded to a three-truck business, and Amelia’s Flower Trucks became a trusted source for flowers — and Instagram photos. Three vintage trucks, lovingly named Amy, Melody and Rory, are filled with flowers and travel from neighborhood to neighborhood, brightening the days of passers-by. Shoppers can select stems on their own or can ask the staff for assistance in picking and arranging. Although the trucks are currently hibernating for the winter, deliveries are being made. Place your order online, and they will deliver right to your door. As the temperatures continue to rise, expect to see Amy, Melody and Rory back on the streets. Keep up with where they are by following Amelia’s Flower Truck on Instagram.

The Farmer’s Florist celebrates Nashville and Middle Tennessee flower farmers. Owned by husband and wife, Christie and Will Tarleton, The Farmer’s Florist sources flowers from small U.S. farms, which results in local, seasonal blooms. Christie artfully arranges the blooms to reflect the colors of the season. The Farmer’s Florist is happy to provide arrangements for your event, or you can order a single bouquet online. The hand-tied arrangements are wrapped in butcher paper, to give them that fresh-from-the-farm feel.

Flwr Shop has been prompting conversations about contemporary floral design since their opening in the spring of 2016. Alex Vaughan owns the flower shop and design studio with husband Quinn Kiesow. Both bring years of knowledge and experience in the industry and a knack for knowing how to create a striking arrangement. Their aesthetic translates into a simple arrangement, large-scale event and everything in between. You can send flowers via their website, or you can pay them a visit in East Nashville. Set on the first floor of a historic home, the shop’s design was approached as thoughtfully as each arrangement. A large table holds stems of different varieties, which can be mixed and matched. Houseplants and gifts are also available for purchase. Alex and Quinn source rare stems and plants, making each visit a treat. If you want to try your hand at arranging, sign up for a class. Speaking from personal experience, it is well worth it.

Typically, a trip to Import Flowers requires us to tap into our creative side. A selection of fresh-cut and hard-to-find flowers is available for wholesale and by the stem, and the knowledgeable staff and the second-generation owner will be happy to help you make your selections, but we think the challenge is half the fun. Let yourself get lost in the buckets of flowers, and introduce yourself to other shoppers, who likely walked from their homes just down the street as Import Flowers is a neighborhood gathering spot that has been serving Sylvan Park for 35 years. Walking into the shop will immediately make your day a bit brighter.
