Established in 1978, Bennett Galleries Nashville has long been a trusted source for Nashville residents and interior designers when it comes to original art and custom framing. We sat down with Elizabeth Perkins, owner of this fabulous female-owned family business, to learn all about their offerings and approach.
Mother-son duo and original gallery owners Bess and Bill Bennett transferred ownership to Elizabeth about four years ago. Before becoming the official owner, Elizabeth served as the gallery manager for over two decades. Originally from Richmond, VA, Elizabeth learned a lot of what she knows about art from being mentored by the Bennetts over the years.
By keeping the name and business model the same, Bennett Galleries Nashville remains a trusted source for fine art. Elizabeth describes it as a successful small business that is about as far from the corporate world as you can get. âWeâre very approachable, lighthearted, and do not take ourselves seriously,â she adds. âI think some people are intimidated because weâre a fine art gallery and we are in an exclusive area of Nashville, but once they come in our doors, they know that weâre not pretentious at all.â
This personalized, humble approach is what draws so many people to Bennett Galleries Nashville. You donât have to be an art aficionado to peruse the galleryâs art collection. âCustomers come in and find us to be friendly and helpful, not taking ourselves too seriously,â explains Elizabeth of the in-store experience. âWe invite you to come in and browse around in the gallery. We can hold your hand and walk you through the whole process.â
Itâs also important to note that the Bennett Galleries Nashville website offers an even more extensive artwork selection. Itâs a great tool to see the galleryâs collection all at once in a single place. âWe usually say that we have a lot of paintings in storage,â adds Elizabeth. âWe canât hang them all at once, so we like to direct people to our website, too.â
Similar to the in-store shopping experience, Elizabeth describes the approach as somewhat laidback when it comes to sourcing artwork. First, Elizabeth and gallery manager Miranda Herrick come together to decide if they like the submitted artwork. From there, the two decide if the artwork is a good fit for the gallery and if they think clients will appreciate the work.
âIf itâs sellable and a good fit â thatâs our system,â explains Elizabeth of the approach. âWeâre about as far from official policies as we can be. We just take every day as it comes and watch it all unfold.â
In addition to fine art, Bennett Galleries Nashville is one of the best (if not the best) custom framers in Nashville. Every staff member is at the top of their profession and has years of experience in the custom framing business. The gallery offers a selection of European and American materials and can frame almost anything. âI would honestly say we have the best-of-the-best framers in this city, and our selection is great,â says Elizabeth of her framing team. âIt goes from very affordable to very expensive, too. We can do the full gamut of framing. We frame anything.â
Bennett Galleries Nashville has also become a trusted source for interior designers. Elizabeth once again credits this to the galleryâs friendly approach to business and the wide selection of frames and molding they have in stock. âWe can build frames quickly, and we have a lot of designers who need a quick turnaround,â adds Elizabeth. âDesigners know that they can come to us, and weâll say, âOkay, weâll squeeze you in.ââ
Whether youâre looking to frame a piece of artwork for your home or office, or if youâre just looking to pick up a quick ready-made frame, the team at Bennett Galleries Nashville is ready to help. âWe are running on a great reputation and a great product. Whether itâs art or custom framing, we do it, we do it right, and we do it in a nice, friendly way,â says Elizabeth.
