Cake tasting, dress fittings, seat charts — oh my! As a bride, planning a wedding can be truly overwhelming, and if you’re not careful, you may forget to make time for yourself during the months leading up to your big day. Whether you’re a bride, the maid of honor or the mother of the bride, it’s a huge day in your life, so you need to be ready for photos galore (and seeing relatives you haven’t seen in decades). We spoke to Kate Meriwether, NP, from Belle Meade’s SkinMD to come up with a list of the five aesthetic treatments you’ll want before your magical day, and, believe it or not, it’s time to start scheduling them NOW!

Getting married? Ensure you look and feel your absolute best with these five pre-wedding aesthetic treatments.

Secret RF

What is it?

This souped-up microneedling system doubles collagen production using tiny needles along with short pulses of radiofrequency heat. In simpler terms, this treatment does it all, treating everything from fine lines and deep wrinkles to those pesky acne scars and even large pores.

When to get it?

To make sure your skin is looking its very best for your wedding day, Kate recommends getting this done three to four months ahead of time. “It takes about 90 days for collagen to turnover, so you don’t see results immediately,” she explains. Most brides opt for a total of three treatments to see the best results, but if you’re in a time crunch, there is a one-and-done option that is more intense.

Downtime?

You’ll probably be pink and a little scaly for up to five days following this treatment, so don’t schedule a bachelorette party or bridal shower immediately afterwards! The good news is that, unlike typical microneedling, you won’t have big scabs or bruising because the heat cauterizes as it treats.

Neurotoxins

What is it?

Botox and Dysport fall under the neurotoxin category and act to relax the muscles in the face at the injection site. The process is simple and uses a tiny needle to inject a small amount of medication directly below the skin. Like Botox, Dysport is simply another brand, and it’s really like comparing Puffs and Kleenex according to Kate. In the end, you get the exact same result. These are FDA-approved for use between the eyebrows, on those aggravating horizontal forehead lines and on smile lines around the eyes.

When to get it?

If you’ve never had Botox before, it’s highly recommended that you head into your dermatologist’s office for a trial treatment four to six months before the big day. This allows you to get a feel for the treatment while also figuring out the correct dosage. Then, repeat the treatment a month before the wedding, allowing time for a touch-up closer to the wedding for optimal results.

Downtime?

Downtime after Botox or Dysport is extremely minimal. You’ll walk out of the office with a few tiny pink spots on your face that will fade in about 30 minutes, so you can easily go about your day and check off the next thing on your planning list.

Excel V Laser

What is it?

The Excel V laser is the go-to for treating reds, browns and blues on the skin. Brown spots include age spots, sunspots and freckles, while reds would be underlying red tones. It can even be used on the body to treat blues if you have tiny spider veins. It’s perhaps the most popular treatment for brides and bridesmaids, as photofacials targeting reds and browns at once fall under this treatment. Seeking that healthy glow? A second handpiece on the Excel V called the Laser Genesis is a great week-of-event option. It’s what the Kardashians use before red carpet events, so you know it’s the real deal.

When to get it?

Like most other dermatology treatments, getting a lot of sun directly before or after this treatment is a no-no, so plan your Miami bachelorette weekend a few weeks after treatment. Kate suggests scheduling this treatment six to eight weeks before the wedding in case a second round is needed.

Downtime?

Downtime for this laser treatment depends on what you’re getting treated for. Brown spots take a week or two to disappear and will get darker before they slough off. On the other hand, capillaries and small vessels are usually instant.

Timing is everything. Make sure you factor in downtime when it comes to planning all of the events leading up to and surrounding your big day. You don’t want to get Excel V laser treatment if you’re heading to the beach for your bachelorette party. Direct sun following this treatment is a no-no.

Excel HR Laser

What is it?

Go virtually hair-free for your wedding day with this hair reduction laser. This treatment boasts up to 90 percent in hair reduction, so you can toss those razors, ladies! “It’s life-changing,” Kate says.

When to get it?

It takes about six treatments to get the full effects, and depending on the area you’re treating, these appointments are spread out every four to eight weeks. Leg hair cycles require a treatment every eight weeks, while facial hair will need one every four weeks. Make sure you plan out your treatments with enough time before the wedding.

Downtime?

Hair-be-gone! The laser vaporizes hair, and you’ll notice the effects immediately. Try to avoid getting a lot of sun for several weeks before and after your treatment.

When it’s time for the big getaway, ensure you have smooth gams with the Excel HR laser treatment.

TruSculpt iD

What is it?

If you’ve been dieting and exercising and still can’t get rid of a specific area of body fat, book your appointment for the TruSculpt iD immediately! This treatment uses radiofrequency heat to permanently kill the fat cells in whatever area you need treated, and it has up to a 24 percent reduction rate per treatment. It gets better: There’s no cutting or needles involved, just a tolerable heat delivered via paddles, and it only takes 15 minutes.

When to get it?

Unfortunately, this fat-melting treatment doesn’t have instant results. It may take up to 12 weeks to get the full effects, so it’s highly recommended that you take this into account when scheduling. Kate explains that under-the-chin treatments do require a minimum of three treatments, but any other area of the body can be done in a mere 15 minutes.

Downtime?

There’s no downtime with this one. The treated area is pink like a sunburn for about an hour, and then voila! That’s it!

There you have it, brides. You’re splurging on a beautiful dress, food and flowers, so ensure you’re feeling your very best on this once-in-a-life day!
