There are definitely two camps of shoppers. There are the deal seekers, those people who only buy something when it’s on sale and get a rush from a great deal. In the other corner are those shoppers who really don’t care about the price and simply want the shopping experience to be about the customer service. They don’t want to have to dig for what they want. Rather, they want someone showing them things that will fit perfectly and look great.

So what if there was a store that accommodated both of these personalities … the deal seekers and the customer service seekers? Well, there is, in fact, such a store. It’s the newly opened boutique in Old Louisville called the Messie Shop on South Second Street. Tucked away across the street from the Treyton Oak Towers, this boutique is a hidden gem that is only open by appointment and on certain Sundays. Why the exclusive arrangements?  Because inside Messie are some real gems for really incredible prices.

Messie is tucked away on this stretch of South Second Street in Old Louisville.

Owner Jessie Patterson has curated a great mix of of high, low, old and new in the Messie Shop, whose name is derived from a combination of her name and her best friend’s name, Melida. Melida + Jessie = Messie. She sells new, classic, on-trend pieces that will never go out of style. Don’t come here looking for the basics: everything here is a statement. She sells current clothes at current prices and last season’s designer clothes at 70 percent to 80 percent off. Jessie gets her merchandise online from designers following the season.

SB Sales Manager Meghan Tinker and I had a little shopping excursion recently, and it was a success, as Meghan has already purchased her Derby outfit. Let me give you a tour of what we saw (and bought):

Lots of unique jewelry at great price points

All of the clothes, shoes, handbags and jewelry are new here. That being said, the inventory is pretty small. With the inventory from last season, there is usually just one of each. With current season inventory, there are some multiples. But this is a treasure hunt, for sure. If you find your size, you are in luck. Good news for those of you who cannot find your size on that shopping day: Jessie can look out for your size and your style for the next shopping excursion … she can be your personal shopper! For me, with a size 11 shoe, Jessie is going to have to look extra hard for this Cinderella, and I cannot wait to see what she finds.

This would be a great place to host a girls’ shopping night with wine, shoes, clothes, jewelry and handbags — all in a relaxed, private environment. So really, it’s the best of both worlds … the deal seekers and customer service seekers alike!

The Messie Shop is located at 1157 S. Second St. in Old Louisville. Make an appointment on their website to shop, and be sure to follow them on Instagram to see all the latest arrivals.

Messie will be open on Sunday, January 17, from noon until 3 p.m. if you would like to check them out.

Be sure to download our free SB App, and you can have access to all the restaurants, retail and happenings here in Louisville right at your fingertips. Happy New Year!
