Not only are these Memphis film series great for fun outings with friends or family, but they are also primarily FREE and a great way to enjoy the cooler temps with a movie night under the stars or embrace spooky season with a Halloween-themed cult classic. Mark your calendar!
Overton Square Movie Series

Overton Square is a hotspot for food, fun, shopping, and live music — but their outdoor movies should be on your radar, too!
Head down to Chimes Square Courtyard on Trimble Place for movie nights, held every Thursday through October and November. The lineup features free screenings of fantasy films, horror classics, sci-fi, and action flicks, including:
October 2: Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil
October 9: You’ve Got Mail
October 16: Sinners
October 23: Beetlejuice
October 30: Nosferatu
November 6: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe
November 13: The Holiday
Moviegoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, but no outside alcoholic beverages are allowed. Showtimes start at 7 p.m., but you can arrive as early as 6 p.m. to snag prime viewing or order takeout from one of the square’s many restaurants.

The Cemetery Cinema at Elmwood

On Friday, October 24, you can soak in the spectral beauty of historic Elmwood Cemetery with a fun, unique film event that helps fund the cemetery’s maintenance. Elmwood’s Cemetery Cinema, sponsored by Baltz & Sons Concrete, returns with a classic: Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Showtime starts around sunset (roughly 6:30 p.m.), and the film is projected onto the roof of Elmwood’s gothic cottage, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places.
Along with chairs and blankets, moviegoers are welcome to bring coolers or picnic baskets — or order from the featured food truck on-site. Purchase your ticket HERE!

Movies in the Park, a free fall outdoor movie series sponsored by Memphis Parks, kicks off on October 4 and runs every Saturday through the month. Showtimes start at 5:30 p.m., with water and treats provided as long as supplies last. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets — and dress in costume to celebrate the movie’s theme! This season’s lineup includes:
October 4: The Wild Robot at Wolf River Greenway
October 11: The Karate Kid at Marquette Park
October 18: Scooby-Doo at Liberty Park
October 25: Wicked at Sea Isle Park

Crosstown Arts Halloween Film Series

Get into the Halloween spirit early with the free Fright-Tober film series, sponsored by Crosstown Arts. The series features spooky movies every Tuesday in October at Crosstown Theater. To make a night of it, you can grab dinner, drinks, or snacks at Crosstown Concourse before or after the shows. Seating is limited, so be sure to register in advance!
Please note that last year’s Fright-tober series featured a mix of kid-friendly and adults-only films, but this year’s lineup is a very adult lineup, with only one kid-friendly screening. This year’s schedule includes:

October 21: Corpse Bride (Kid-friendly!)

‘Movies and Brews’ at MoSH

Free local craft beers with a side of classic movies? Yes, please! Each month for the rest of the year, the Memphis Museum of Science and History (MoSH) hosts Movies and Brews, with films shown on the Giant Screen Theater at the Pink Palace Museum & Mansion. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for beers and socializing, followed by pre-show programming about the film before the main event. Tickets are $25.75 and include one local craft beer.
