Treat Yourself: Atlanta’s Latest Unique Spa Treatments

September 13, 2018 by Nicole Letts

The word “spa” can take on a variety of meanings. In some cases, it conjures visions of plush robes and Barefoot Dreams blankets. In others, a spa simply means a few educational moments with a facialist. No matter what the word “spa” means to you, one thing is for sure: a trip to any sort of spa is an opportunity to treat yourself, and Atlanta’s latest unique spa treatments are allowing relaxation seekers time to do just that. Whether you have just 30 minutes or an entire morning of spare time, we have the spa treatments you need now.

3 New Spa Treatments to Try

Halotherapy

Dry salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, is among the latest trends in spa experiences. In fact, you might have stumbled upon a salt lamp or two at your local HomeGoods. Before adding a salt lamp to your decor, consider a trip to Intown Salt Room in Grant Park. The 1,000-square-foot spa has 6,000 pounds of Himalayan salt incorporated into its decor. Here, visitors can try two unique relaxation experiences: halotherapy and meditation. Each session is only 30 minutes, and there’s no need to change clothes, which makes this treatment the ultimate escape for ladies on the go. While the meditation room, complete with zero-gravity wave loungers, is certainly zen, we’re partial to the halotherapy room. Once inside, remove your shoes and walk on pebbles of pink Himalayan salt to access a zero-gravity sling chair. Next, simply breathe. Intown Salt Room’s halogenerator will do the rest. The machine grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt and “mists” it into the air. You’ll practically be transported to the beach! Grant Park resident, wellness expert and owner Carrie Wright says, “It’s soothing, and the concentration of the loose Himalayan salt [on the halotherapy room floor] is naturally letting out negative ions in the room, so it’s very calming.” Dry salt therapy has many benefits beyond stress relief, but we’re sure just a few minutes of peace and quiet is the only benefit you really need. A single session is $40. Learn more at intownsaltroom.com.

CBD Massage

Give your next massage extra oomph by booking at CBD massage at Natural Body. Extracted from hemp plants, Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, is all the rage among wellness experts and for good reason. While there’s no official word from the FDA regarding medical claims, the oil, according to wellness experts, is said to reduce inflammation, help with chronic pain and encourage endorphin release. Medical claims or not, Atlanta Natural Body spas are allowing visitors to try the treatment for themselves. CBD oil is now a part of specific spa offerings and in Natural Body retail shops. During your massage, you’ll be treated to trigger point therapy along with long, warming strokes while CBD is applied and kneaded into the skin. The effects are soothing and relaxing. And before you ask, no, there are no psychoactive properties as CBD does not contain THC. Instead, look forward to a release of endorphins and a moment of tranquility. Appointments are available at Natural Body and start at $100 for a 60-minute massage. Learn more at naturalbody.com.

Dry Brushing

It’s no secret that we’ve been in tune to the benefits of dry brushing for quite some time. As we say farewell to summer later this month and head into cooler weather, it’s time to put dry brushing back on your radar. If you’re not ready to try dry brushing on your own, consider booking an appointment at one of many Atlanta area spas for exfoliation unlike any other. Dry brushing is the process of brushing the skin with a natural brush in sweeping motions. The results are improved circulation and thorough exfoliation among other benefits. Plus, in our opinion, any treatment that makes our skin glow in the dead of winter is worth a try! Several area spas and wellness centers offer dry brushing as a part of their services. The Glow Body Scrub ($170) at Exhale Spa at Loews Atlanta incorporates both dry brushing and body scrubbing in tandem followed by moisturizer application. Pair this treatment with an Exhale massage for even more relaxation. Another option is to book a Moroccan Ritual at the Four Seasons Spa. This 80-minute, $260 massage begins with dry brushing and concludes with a scalp treatment and hydrating mask.
