The SB Hot List is back, and it seems we have warm weather on the mind! Outdoor attractions, cooling beauty products and summertime drinks all make this month’s list. Take a look at the items our staff is loving now in this month’s edition of The Hot List!

The SB Hot List: May 2019

Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray

I live by Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray. Whether you need a mid-day boost of hydration or want to use it as a setting spray after doing your makeup, it does the trick. Since I don’t wear a lot of makeup in the summer, this product is my best friend. SB TIP: Spray this on your favorite brush or sponge before blending in your foundation or concealer and/or store your bottle in the fridge. Makes a world of difference, especially with this Southern heat!

– Katelyn Caughron, SB Memphis Client Success Representative

Katelyn swears by Mario Badescu’s facial spray.

Folex Spot Cleaner

I recently heard about Folex from Utah-based lifestyle blogger Tara Thueson, who has four kids and two pups and swears by this cleaner to get any stain out. I have a cream couch and three dogs of my own, which don’t always mix well. The covers on my couch are removable for machine washing, but the ottoman isn’t and it needed a good cleaning. I gave Folex a shot a few weeks ago and it worked wonders. All you do is spray, agitate and blot, and the stain disappears! This stuff is no joke.

Califa Farms Cafe Latte Cold Brew Coffee

My sister turned me on to this coffee a month ago and it has quickly become my latest obsession. There is simply nothing like a nice afternoon iced latte in the summertime, and this latte is so delicious that I am still in disbelief it comes pre-made from a grocery store. Though I have not done it yet, I think there is a strong likelihood that I will eventually drink the entire bottle in one sitting!

Gold & Ivy Candles

I’m not a candle connoisseur per se, but I enjoy a nice candle if the moment calls for it. That’s why when I came across local candle brand Gold & Ivy, where the candles are meticulously hand-poured and carcinogen-free, I had to indulge! The owner and candle artisan herself, Alexis, truly cares about the work she’s doing, and as a marketing nerd, I love her branding and voice.

Rada Tomato Knife

In the summertime, I can’t live without my tomatoes or my Rada Tomato Knife. This knife slides through tomatoes like butter. Slice them as thin as you like because this knife never squashes even the ripest fruit. Since it is so thin I even peel tomatoes with it if I don’t have time to blanch them. These knives are made in the USA and carry a lifetime guarantee.

– Ginny Staggs, SB Director of Sales

Bonus: The Rada Tomato Knife is under $10!

Southern Firefly Tobacco Barn Candle

As a North Carolina girl who grew up around a lot of tobacco barns, this candle is perfect to me. It lasts a long time, smells incredible and brings a little of my childhood home into my Nashville home.

Amish Built Chicken Coop by Smucker Farms

My new neighbor (and now friend!) recently moved here from Memphis. She lived on a farm there, and now she’s living in Nashville proper. To reclaim a bit of farm life, she purchased six chickens and the CUTEST chicken coop. The chickens came from Poultry Hollow Hatchery — they are absolutely adorable, and their home is a work of art. She got the coop from Smucker Farms in Nolensville, TN. It’s Amish-built and made with quality materials, amazing attention to detail and adorable touches like windows that open and close — complete with screens — as well as a hydraulic-supported access door. Perhaps the coolest part, though, is the fact that it’s on wheels, making it a mobile home in the most literal sense. It’s truly a work of art. (Keep an eye out for a home feature on this coop on SB in the near future — it’s THAT cool!)

These crazy-cool chicken coops are built in Nolensville, Tennessee. Stay tuned for more on these!

Zucchini-and-Herb-Stuffed Chicken

I’m currently obsessed with this chicken recipe that I found in a Food & Wine magazine several months ago. It’s easy, so flavorful and for some reason, people are really impressed with it! I typically just buy bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts instead of a whole chicken, which makes it a little easier to prepare. Served with homemade bread and a big salad, this is the perfect summer meal for an intimate dinner party.

Watermelon Cucumber Cooler

As the weather warms up, Trader Joe’s re-introduces their Watermelon Cucumber Cooler juice, and I am obsessed! It’s not too sweet and so refreshing. While it tastes great by itself, it is also a yummy summer cocktail mixer.

– Bailey Torkelson, SB Birmingham Client Success Representative

This seasonal find is a must-try. Find it at Trader Joe’s in warm weather months.

Ice Roller

First, it was the jade roller, and now it’s the ice roller. Each morning when I get out of bed, I immediately head downstairs to grab my ice roller. An impulse purchase from Amazon a few months ago, this is one of the few beauty tools that has truly provided the benefits it promised! Quickly cooling, de-puffing and de-bloating my face, the morning routine leaves my skin brighter and tighter after just five minutes of use. I apply a toner just before use to remove any products from the night before, roll, then begin my morning skincare routine.

– Annie Reeves, SB Nashville Lead Writer and Associate Editor

The ice roller delivers on its beauty promises to calm skin, improve dry skin, shrink pores and more.

Egyptian Magic Cream

I’ve been making the swap to “cleaner” products, and Egyptian Magic cream checks all the boxes for me with only six ingredients. To purchase, visit their site or check your local Costco for a deal on a package of three. It’s been around since 1991 and after using it for a week, I’m wondering why it took so long for me to to get on board! It is an all-purpose skin balm that can be used as a moisturizer for lips, feet, hands, hair, face and body. It does wonders on dry, cracked skin, soothes bug bites and treats cuts and burns.

Topo Chico

Topo Chico bottled water (in a glass bottle) is amazing and is getting a bunch of well-deserved press. The carbonation is so strong that it almost slaps you in the face. The mineral content along with this high carbonation makes the water almost peppery, and yet it’s definitely not flavored. You must experience Topo Chico for yourself and see what all the fuss is about!

Liza Graves, SB CEO

This mineral water is an SB office favorite!

Zak Tumblers

These are my new go-to tumblers, and I LOVE THEM! They work just as well as a Yeti but for a third of the price. They also have great travel wine cups.

Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules

My longtime friend, Stella Taylor Bergan, who’s a Nashville native and Health and Human Performance Coach in Silicon Valley, was in town recently for our high school reunion. During a very helpful health and wellness discussion, Stella highly recommended consuming apple cider vinegar on a daily basis for all of its health benefits, from promoting gut health and killing bacteria to lowering blood sugar and helping decrease your risk of heart disease. For me, apple cider vinegar capsules made the most sense. Costco carries them, but I found this brand (that Stella approved) on Amazon. I’m already taking them daily!

Lashify Lashes

Who doesn’t want beautiful long lashes that can last for a week? Lashify is an at home lash extension set. I have always loved the look of lash extensions, but who has time for the fill-ins? Lashify is amazing because it lets you customize the perfect lash look for you, and you can wear for a day or even up to a week! The best part is they are so easy to apply, and they don’t damage your lashes after removal.
