Southern Roots Wines’ of Napa Valley Wine Club

Over their 30-year friendship, Birmingham native Frank O’Neil and longtime Alabama resident Rob Francis would dream up their plans to create a superb wine. While the idea floated around during Gulf Coast beach trips and family gatherings in Birmingham, eventually this Alabama-bred idea turned into a serious wine reality, and Southern Roots Wines was born. The winemakers proudly honor their Southern Roots through their award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon from the prestigious Coombsville AVA in Napa, CA, and chardonnay from Carneros, the premier chardonnay growing region in California. Fine California wines made by two Southern families sounds like the perfect gift to us!

Best friends and now winemaking partners — Janet and Frank O’Neil (left) and  Rob and Fran Francis (right) — raise a toast. Because they’re a small-batch wine operation, Southern Roots can accommodate any order you’d like to gift — from one bottle to a few cases! Image: Facebook

For an extra-special holiday gift, opt for one of the two annual wine club memberships. The Best Buds club includes a 15% discount on all wines, two three-bottle shipments (spring shipment: one rosé and two chardonnays; fall shipment: three bottles of cabernet sauvignon), first access to new releases, and an invitation to the annual tasting dinner party in Birmingham (pandemic permitting!). The Deep Roots membership level includes all that’s in Best Buds, but you get 20% off all wines and two six-bottle shipments (spring and fall). The club prices depend on the wines you order. For example, this year’s fall shipment was approximately $300 for the three cabernets, but the spring shipment is less because it’s traditionally two chardonnays and a rosé. Find out more at

Batch USA City Gift Set Series

Batch USA has long been a Nashville, TN, staple for curated, local gifts from favorite Tennessee makers. However, the company recently expanded its city-centric gift boxes to include lots of our favorite Southern cities, including Asheville, Atlanta, Austin, Birmingham, Charleston, Charlotte, Memphis, and Nashville — as well as Brooklyn, Las Vegas, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Even if the people on your gift list this year can’t travel far and wide, they can experience the best of your favorite cities. Each box is filled with snacks, sweets, seasonings, drink mixers, and a few inedible items like guide books, kitchen tools, games, and more from the chosen city. Your giftee can try different local flavors and learn a little, too.
