Rebecca Rogers didnโ€™t plan on leaving international trade for healthcare, but after navigating conventional healthcare systems herself, she saw the gaps and wanted to build something better. As CEO and Clinic Director at Birminghamโ€™s Sparrow Health & Performance, she oversees a blend of holistic and medical care under one roof.

โ€œSparrow exists to make healthcare feel like it should: whole-person, high-touch, and built around long-term wellness โ€” not just quick fixes,โ€ Rebecca tells us. โ€œFor us, itโ€™s about helping people take their next best step, one layer at a time, toward real health, resilience, and a better quality of life.โ€

What initially inspired Sparrow?

Sparrow was born out of a simple conviction I couldnโ€™t shake: people deserve a place where theyโ€™re truly seen, heard, and helped โ€” not rushed, not dismissed, and not handed a one-size-fits-all plan.

Will and I founded Sparrow with a โ€œnatural-firstโ€ vision: first, do no harm, go after root cause, and bring together the best of holistic care with the benefits of modern medicine and innovative technology. After watching so many friends and families struggle to find answers โ€” especially in systems constrained by time, insurance, and symptom-only approaches โ€” I knew there had to be a better way.

What are some ways Sparrow fills gaps patients might experience at conventional clinics?

At Sparrow, we prioritize patient care by building an experience that feels personal, thorough, and proactive โ€” and by stepping into the gaps that can happen when conventional clinics are stretched thin.
We start with listening โ€” longer visits, deeper history, and space for patients to be heard.

Instead of just managing symptoms, we look for the โ€œwhyโ€ behind whatโ€™s happening and create a plan that addresses foundational drivers such as inflammation, hormones, gut health, metabolism, nutrient status, sleep, stress, and toxin load.

Weโ€™re also integrative with medical providers. Weโ€™re natural-first, but we have medical providers on our team and use appropriate diagnostics, clinical oversight, and referrals when needed, so patients arenโ€™t choosing between โ€œnaturalโ€ and โ€œmedical.โ€

We tailor recommendations to the patientโ€™s goals, preferences, labs, lifestyle, and budget, offering education, clear action steps, and ongoing accountability. Because outcomes happen between visits, not just during them.

Whatโ€™s the biggest misconception about natural medicine?

The biggest misconception I hear is that natural medicine is either โ€œwoo-wooโ€ and unscientific, or that choosing a natural approach means youโ€™re anti-doctor, anti-medication, or opposed to modern medicine.

My response is: Thatโ€™s not what we do at Sparrow. Weโ€™re natural-first, and weโ€™re also clear-eyed about the fact that conventional care isnโ€™t the enemy. It can be lifesaving, and when itโ€™s needed, we want it integrated wisely and at the right time.

And yes, weโ€™ve been called the โ€œnuts and berriesโ€ clinic more than once, and weโ€™re perfectly okay with that. If caring about what you put in your body, supporting the bodyโ€™s design to heal, and prioritizing foundational health make us โ€œnuts and berries,โ€ weโ€™ll wear it proudly. Because our focus is always safe, evidence-informed, patient-centered care that gets results.

Tell us about your philosophy on the intersection of holistic treatments and conventional, modern medicine.

I believe natural, holistic therapies can be powerful for prevention, resilience, and root-cause support โ€”things like reducing inflammation, optimizing sleep and stress response, supporting detox pathways, improving recovery, and building long-term wellness. At the same time, conventional medicine is invaluable for emergencies, surgery, and acute or high-risk conditions, and Iโ€™m grateful for the breakthroughs that save lives every day.

The harmony comes from staying evidence-informed, patient-centered, and collaborative: using modern labs and imaging, when needed, to understand whatโ€™s happening; addressing lifestyle and foundational health; and bringing in medical specialists and medications when needed โ€” without shame, ideology, or ego.

We aim to meet people where they are, choose the least invasive option that can help, and escalate thoughtfully when the situation calls for it, while striving to get to the root cause to support longevity and overall wellness. The answer isnโ€™t always another pill.

Where can we find you when youโ€™re not working?

Gardening, cooking, and traveling.

Who or what is inspiring you right now?

Right now, Iโ€™m most inspired by my parents as they persevere through and overcome health challenges, by my husband and children, and by our incredible Sparrow family. Their hard work and dedication to making the Sparrow dream a reality are truly motivating. Above all, Iโ€™m inspired by Godโ€™s hand in it all. Without Him, none of this would be possible.

What is your best piece of advice?

My best advice is really three lessons that were handed down to me by three people whoโ€™ve shaped my life:

Lead by example. My dad taught me that if you want to be a good leader, you never ask anyone to do something you arenโ€™t willing to do yourself. If it needs to be done โ€” whether itโ€™s cleaning the toilet or digging the ditch โ€” do it, and always keep your word.

Do what you know is best until you know better. My Maw Maw Bessie lived by this, and itโ€™s become part of our mission at Sparrow, encouraging both our patients and our team to keep learning and always striving to know better.

Be open, honest, and direct. My friend and mentor Jim Bridges taught me that clarity and candor solve problems faster. Address things upfront, communicate plainly, and make sure everyone knows exactly what to expect.

LIGNTNING ROUND!

Three things you canโ€™t live without: My daily quiet time and devotional, Gerolsteiner water, and โ€” if Iโ€™m being honest โ€” my phone. Iโ€™m working on being more present and enjoying life instead of staying tethered to a screen, but when youโ€™re running a business, that balance can be tough.

Your personal essential wellness practice: Clean food and water

Last delicious local meal: Satterfieldโ€™s

Book(s) on your bedside table: Thereโ€™s not enough space on my bedside table or this piece โ€“ Iโ€™m an avid reader and always have at LEAST 30 books to read! One of my favorite easy reads is The Noticer by Andy Andrews.
