Looking for a group activity for a 21+ crowd or a unique day-date idea? A few favorites on the Memphis brewery and distillery scene offer in-depth tours, and if you’re interested in making the rounds at more than one, there are options for that too! Check out these four fun ways to get an inside look at how your favorite boozy beverages are made.

SINGLE-STOP TOURS

B. R. Distilling

Neighborhood: North Memphis
More info: bluenotebourbon.com

You can now tour the facilities at the oldest licensed distillery in Memphis! Led by the Blue Note Bourbon team, the ticketed tours — led on Thursdays and Fridays — can be booked via Eventbrite at $10 per ticket. Visitors 18 and older are welcome on the tour, but you must be at least 21 to participate in the optional tasting at the end of the tour, available for an additional $5.

Old Dominick Distillery

Neighborhood: Downtown
More info: olddominick.com

Old Dominick Distillery offers two fabulous tour options, both of which include a tasting. The “Making the Memphis Spirit” tour ($15 per person) includes an hour-long experience that begins with a history lesson, followed by a tour of the distilling facilities, and ends with a tasting. For serious whiskey enthusiasts, they offer the “Beyond the Barrel” experience ($50 per person). This option lasts an hour and a half and includes an in-depth discussion and tour, a taste of exclusive whiskeys unavailable on the regular tour, and a souvenir gift. They cap these tours at 12 and 10 guests, respectively, so reservations are recommended.

If you’re not ready to leave after your tour, stop by the bar for a cocktail, a beer, or to sample additional spirits. Or, if you’re up for exploring on foot, hop around to some of the other fabulous spots on and around Front Street.

Wiseacre Brewing Co.

Neighborhood: Downtown
More info: wiseacrebrew.com

While you can stop in for a beer and great ambiance at Wiseacre’s taprooms on Broad Avenue and South B.B. King Boulevard, it’s the downtown headquarters on South B.B. King that offers tours of the brewing facilities. Available on Saturdays at 1 p.m., the brewery tours include a lesson on the history of beer, the history of Wiseacre, and an inside look at the beer-making process. Each $7 ticket purchase includes four tasting flights, served in a souvenir glass you can take home with you!

While the tasting tour is reserved for guests aged 21 and older, you can also purchase “tour only” tickets for guests aged 12 to 20 for only $5 apiece.

A MULTI-STOP OPTION!

The Memphis Brew Bus

More info: memphisbrewbus.com

If you love exploring the craft beer scene, the Memphis Brew Bus is a fabulous option that allows you to visit three beloved local craft breweries for tours and tastings. Tours generally take place on Saturdays, but they also offer private tours. (You can reserve all 20 seats on the bus for $750!) Book in advance at $54 per person, which includes a tour and a pint of beer at each location, plus water and snacks on the bus, and of course — transportation. You drink, they drive! (An Uber or Lyft to the pick-up and drop-off point is recommended for a worry-free afternoon.)

Cheers, Memphis!
