What made you decide to go into public relations as a career?
I was an accounting major in college and bored to death working in an accounting firm my junior year. So I called my dad and said I was switching majors! I decided to do an internship at an agency in Austin for fun. I loved it and here I am.
Β How long have you owned your own business?
21 years
What kind of advice would you have given yourself 20 years ago?
I donβt think anyone can tell you what itβs going to be like to own your own business. Itβs both rewarding and frightening every day. Mostly rewarding. I guess I would say get ready for the roller coaster ride; itβs going to be a doozy!
What is the number one reason why a business needs someone like you?
We are dedicated to local businesses. My job is to be the liaison between the client and the agency. I help them build and maintain their business through marketing. My partners and I have way more than 20 years of experience in marketing and PR under our belts. We are smart, honest, business-minded and creative. What more do you need?
Who is your typical client?
Small and medium-to-large businesses in the following categories: spirits, professional services, retail, financial services, higher education, technology, health care, health-care recruitment, etc. We try not to limit ourselves. We do it all!
What is the biggest misconception about your business?
Marketing is just for large companies. Small companies to large companies have to think about how to attract customers, too. Everyone has to market.
What is inspiring you right now?
All the new ways to communicate: online, apps, social media, mobile, EEEKKKK!
What is the biggest life lesson you have ever learned?
Life goes on even when you lose someone important to you.
Who is your mentor?
Many people touch my life every day. A few come to mind β¦ my mom and dad, my Aunt Elaine and women bosses along the way.
What is best advice you have received in business?
You canβt make everyone happy.
If you were not in your current job, what would you secretly love to do?
Travel and be a critic for 5-star resorts
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I play Mahjong (big nerd!) and watch βDancing with the Stars!β
What is your favorite place to go eat?
I am a foodie and love going out to eat in Louisville or wherever I go. I hate to pick a favorite, so here are few local favorites:
Β Where do you like to shop?
Boutique-type stores, because I canβt stand too many choices. Work the MetalΒ at Butchertown Market is my favorite, and when Iβm traveling, I love to shop at Nordstrom!
What is a treat or a luxury you do for yourself?
SPA all day long!
What is your weakness?
Sleeping late β¦ I love to sleep late.
What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?
Sit outside at a bar or restaurant in the late spring or early fall to have a drink and eat a great meal. I love all of our local fare.
What are three things you cannot live without, besides faith, family and friends?
- iPhone
- Internet
- Sleep
What are you reading right now?
A book called The Humpty Dumptys, by my friend Greta Sherman.
What are three of your favorite things right now (can be anything)?
- My car (used car, but new to me) is a diesel and gets amazing gas mileage. I am only filling up once every 10Β days, whereas I used to fillΒ up twice a week!
- Right now, βThe Newsroomβ on HBO, but I canβt wait for the new season of βHouse of Cardsβ on Netflix to begin.
- Cosmo with Grey Goose orange vodka.
