For the Junior League of Birmingham, shopping has long been a way to support something bigger. Shop Save & Share and Market Noel are two of the organization’s biggest annual traditions, but their impact reaches far beyond a traditional shopping experience. Every coupon book purchased, ticket bought, and person who shops online or walks through the doors helps fuel JLB’s work across the Magic City.

The result is a community investment that supports local families, strengthens nonprofit partnerships, and gives Junior League members the resources and leadership opportunities to make a truly meaningful difference.

Shop Save & Share: 12 Days of Shopping With a Bigger Purpose

Taking place October 14-25, 2026, JLB’s annual Shop Save & Share event is a beloved local tradition, offering 20% savings at more than 300 participating retailers. What makes it even more special is that these businesses are intentionally choosing to support JLB and its work in the Birmingham community.

To participate in the event, simply purchase a $40 book filled with discounts and special offers at participating stores. Then, shop, save, and share the knowledge that your participation helps support the Junior League’s 20 community projects across both Jefferson and Shelby Counties.

These projects include everything from equipping communities with knowledge and resources on human trafficking prevention to delivering weekly food staples to students in need. They also include partnering with nonprofits to arrange field trips for elementary school students to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, where they participate in hands-on enrichment projects and learn about nature and science.

And while it may feel like you’re simply enjoying an afternoon of shopping, the impact extends far beyond your purchases. “Yes, you are buying a book. Yes, you are shopping,” says Junior League of Birmingham President Shanika Gibson. “But you are also helping us grow the relationships and resources that help Birmingham families move from surviving to thriving. You are strengthening our mission without even knowing it.”

Market Noel: Shop the Magic

JLB’s other major fundraiser, Market Noel, returns November 18-21, 2026, bringing four days of holiday shopping, special events, and festive experiences. The annual market features more than just a chance to get a head start on holiday gifting: you can also enjoy an opening night, Preview Noel, brunch with The Big Guy, “Santa Claus,” and even a 45-minute bodyweight workout on the schedule. (Tickets can be purchased HERE!)

But the holiday magic is only part of the story. Like Shop Save & Share, Market Noel brings together businesses choosing to support the Junior League and its community initiatives. Every ticket purchased or friend invited helps strengthen JLB’s ability to serve the community long after the market closes its doors.

“Every person who walks through those doors is also investing in Birmingham. Every ticket matters. Bringing a friend matters. Buying from a vendor matters,” says Shanika.

“Of course, we want you to have an amazing shopping experience. We pride ourselves on that,” she adds. “But what makes Market Noel different is what happens because you came. That’s what we mean when we say, ‘Shop the Magic.’”

Where Fundraising Becomes Tangible Impact

The true impact of these events can be seen long after the shopping bags are put away and gifts are unwrapped. Funds raised through Shop Save & Share and Market Noel help JLB turn support into resources and opportunities into lasting connections.

That support takes many forms. For example, Career Cafés introduce children to job opportunities and pathways that may have once felt out of reach. JLB also supports family activities at Children’s of Alabama, another program with Collat grocery deliveries for seniors, and works with a multitude of partners to strengthen programs through trained volunteers serving Birmingham residents.

“Our work is incredibly meaningful because you can actually see the investment come full circle,” adds Shanika. “When you see an Essentials Pantry provide a student or family with basic necessities, or you see someone gain access to a service because of our community partnership, that’s when fundraising becomes very real. It stops being a number on a spreadsheet and becomes something you can see and feel.”

Turning Awareness Into Action

Shanika adds that not every community need can be addressed with a direct service, though. Sometimes, making a difference starts with helping people simply understand an issue and giving them the tools to respond. That’s the idea behind JLB’s Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, which focuses on education and awareness around a complex issue.

“You can’t address something you don’t understand,” Shanika explains. “Human trafficking is a complex issue, and sometimes the first step toward making a difference is simply helping people understand what it looks like, where it exists, and how they can recognize it.”

That education helps members and the broader Birmingham community recognize potential signs of trafficking and understand how to respond in their communities. “Awareness can become action, and action can become impact,” adds Shanika.

The People Behind the Impact

Behind every JLB initiative is a group of members who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get involved. For Shanika, what stands out most about the women who volunteer is simple: “They lean in … They don’t just show up for the event and check a box. They want to understand the ‘why’ behind the work and ask the tough questions. They want to know the community partners. They want to learn about the issues. They want to use whatever skills, relationships, or experiences they have to make things better.”

That commitment creates a ripple effect across Birmingham. Members build meaningful relationships, gain leadership experience, and learn more about the community they serve, while nonprofit partners gain dedicated volunteers ready to put their skills into action.

“The Junior League gives women a place to learn, serve, lead, and build relationships, and Birmingham gets to benefit from all of that,” Shanika explains.

Be Part of the Magic

At the heart of Shop Save & Share and Market Noel is a simple idea: everyone who participates is helping make JLB’s work possible. Whether you buy a Shop Save & Share book, shop with a participating retailer, purchase a Market Noel ticket, or support a vendor, you’re investing in the community in more ways than you may even realize.

“I want people to know they are part of the magic,” says Shanika. “You are investing in Birmingham. You are helping us train our members. You are strengthening our relationships. You are helping us expand access to resources and services. You are helping us continue work that happens long after the event is over.”

“The magic is what happens because our community chooses to participate, and we cannot thank you enough,” she adds.
