At 17, Hope Skouras faced an isolating battle with Crohn’s disease, a diagnosis that ultimately taught her the power of resilience and grace. Today, the busy mom of three is channeling that wisdom into her brand, The Whole Hope. With the launch of Lemon Swirl, a nutrient-packed blend of lemon, ginger, turmeric, and honey inspired by her daily wellness routine, she’s making it easier than ever to start the day on a healthy note. Meet the inspiring founder who is redefining what it means to be well.

You were diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a senior in high school. How did that impact your life?

When I was diagnosed, it felt like my body had completely turned against me. What made it especially difficult was that it is an invisible disease. I looked healthy on the outside, but internally I was struggling β€” physically, mentally, and emotionally in ways I didn’t have the maturity to fully process or explain.

One of the hardest parts was the social impact. I would overcommit myself, make plans, and then cancel because I felt so sick, but to everyone else, I looked fine. That confusion created distance in some friendships, and, at the time, it felt deeply isolating and painful.

Now, 19 years later, I can look back with much more perspective and grace. That season shaped me into who I am today. It taught me some of the greatest lessons of my life: empathy, compassion, forgiveness, and vulnerability. I am much more comfortable being vulnerable now than I ever was. Honestly, I think it has become a bit of a superpower.

What did the path to The Whole Hope brand look like?

I am a certified health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. My philosophy has always been less about obsessing over nutrition and more about creating an attainable, sustainable lifestyle that supports the whole person.

Originally, The Whole Hope began as a health-coaching business, but as the brand evolved and grew, I decided to leave health coaching so I could focus on building the brand full-time.

How did the idea for Lemon Swirl take shape?

I began posting about my love of starting the day with warm lemon water, and over time, it kind of became my β€œthing.” As I shared more, I noticed that some people were able to maintain the habit consistently, while others struggled due to time constraints in their morning routines or throughout the day. I told my husband, Spyros, β€œI am going to find a way to take away the excuse of time.” That was the beginning. Lemon Swirl was born right in our kitchen with our three kiddos running around us β€” and that makes the story even more special to me.

What was the biggest challenge in bringing Lemon Swirl to life, and how did you overcome it?

One of our biggest hurdles was finding a co-manufacturer who would work with a smaller brand while also honoring the integrity of the product. It was very important to me that Lemon Swirl remain cold-processed and never heat-pasteurized so the nutrients and freshness would remain intact.

I had many conversations with food labs and manufacturers who pushed for a shelf-stable product because it would make scaling easier and less expensive, but I knew that was not aligned with my vision for the brand.

It was difficult at times to stay patient and stick to my convictions when easier options were right in front of us, but quality over quantity has always been one of my core values.

If you could instill one healthy habit in your three children, what would it be?

I hope to instill the habit of praying in my children. There is no guarantee in this world that our paths will be easy, but we always have the power of prayer and the ability to seek gratitude when we need to shift our perspective. Being spiritually connected keeps us grounded in what really matters.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life so far?

When I reflect on the many lessons I’ve faced in my life, whether through health scares, heartache, marriage, motherhood, boundaries, or building a business, I always come back to the importance of trusting your gut and inner voice. For me, that means staying aligned with the Holy Spirit and trusting the direction God is leading me, even when things feel uncertain or difficult.

I have learned that our response to life matters so much, and I try my best to approach every season with truth, love, joy, and gratitude.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I actually slid into Elizabeth Stein’s (from Purely Elizabeth) DMs for advice before launching The Whole Hope Lemon Swirl because I have always admired her brand. One thing she said really stuck with me: β€œDon’t wait for everything to be perfect. Just start.”

It was such simple but powerful advice, and it is so true. I am grateful she said that because I could’ve wasted so much time trying to get everything exactly right instead of leaning in, learning as I went, and allowing the process to unfold organically.

What is one simple thing anyone can do to lead a cleaner, healthier life?

Drink Lemon Swirl, of course! I think one of the simplest things anyone can do is to start the day hydrated and be more intentional about small daily habits. Wellness does not have to be extreme or complicated to be impactful.

What is the one health or wellness trend you wish would go away?

The idea that health can be bought through endless supplements and quick fixes. While I absolutely believe supplements serve a purpose, I think the wellness world has lost sight of how powerful the basics really are.

Sometimes the most impactful things are also the simplest: hydration, nourishing foods, movement, sunlight, rest, stress management, and staying spiritually and emotionally connected.

You are one busy woman! How do you fill your own cup (other than with a Lemon Swirl)?

By slowing down and being present. Some of my favorite moments are the simplest ones: laughing with my kids, listening to good music, spending time with my husband, family, and friends, and being home without a calendar full of plans.

Life can feel very loud and fast sometimes, so those slower, meaningful moments are what truly recharge me.
