Every time I turn around I am hearing about fantastic events taking place at this “barn” outside of Memphis called Hartwood Hall. I was lucky enough to be invited to a most-special celebration and got to check it out for myself at the fall wedding of our sweet friends Glenda and Rusty. They hype is justified and it is well worth the drive out 385!

Before we get to the venue, I must share these: Glenda and Rusty’s save the date, invitation and envelope-I mean, how amazing! If that doesn’t set the tone for a wedding at Hartwood Hall, I don’t know what will. For a bride who never thought she would be into wedding planning, Glenda certainly thought of everything.

Built in 1840, Heartwood Hall (listed as The Miller House on the National Historic Register) was originally part of a 5,000 acre plantation estate which now sits on 25 wooded acres. During the Civil War, the Union soldiers camped here and occupied the home as a hospital and luckily, this magnificent estate survived the Union Soldier’s path of destruction through the south.

John & Denise Suthoff bought the house 8 years ago and have added an additional 3500 square feet to the residence for a total of 7000 square feet. The Suthoff’s have renovated and added a beautiful garden while taking great care to maintain the original character of the estate throughout. After hosting a wedding for their niece, it was clear that the Suthoff’s has a perfect venue on their hands and ever since, Heartwood Hall has become a highly sought after venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions. In fact, they are booked solid every Saturday through 2012!

Glenda and Rusty’s numptuals took place in the formal Four Seasons Garden, surrounded by rose bushes, just as the sun was setting. The bride was stunning and guests were treated to some real surprises throughout including an original song penned just for Rusty. Guests then moved poolside for cocktails and small bites before the doors to the rustic yet elegant climate-controlled Barn were flung open for one heck of a night!

I knew since Glenda and Rusty own and operate one of my most favorite and consistently wonderful restaurants, Napa Cafe, that we were in for a real treat when it came to the food but this was beyond my wildest expectations. They recreated for us a Taste Around the World menu with stations offering everything from tacos to crepes!

Sounds of the Soul Shockers filled the night as guests flooded the dance floor and celebrated this special couple. It was a magical wedding that I will never forget.
