For 40 years, one of Nashville’s most distinctive celebrations has invited guests to experience downtown in a way few other events can. On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, The DISTRICT Nashville will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its annual Progressive Party with 40 Years of Neon, Notes & Nightlife — a milestone celebration of the people, places, and history that helped shape downtown Nashville.
And even for its 40th year, all-inclusive tickets remain just $75, including food, drinks, and entertainment throughout the evening at three signature downtown venues.

The party begins at The Stage on Broadway, continues at Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville, and concludes at The Hampton Social, where guests will enjoy the final celebration and The DISTRICT’s popular silent auction.
Adding to the significance of the 40th anniversary, this year’s celebration will welcome back many legacy sponsors whose longstanding support has helped sustain The DISTRICT and the Progressive Party over the years, including marquee sponsor Old Town Trolley Tours, a familiar part of downtown Nashville and a valued supporter of the organization and its mission.
The Progressive Party traces its roots to the earliest days of The DISTRICT in the 1980s, when preservationists, downtown merchants, property owners, and community leaders were working to bring new life to Nashville’s historic urban core. The progressive format encouraged Nashvillians to move from location to location, discovering the businesses, historic buildings, and neighborhoods of Broadway, Second Avenue/Riverfront, and Printers Alley along the way.
Four decades later, the concept remains remarkably fitting. Nashville has changed dramatically, but the Progressive Party continues to bring people together in the heart of the city while raising funds to preserve and enhance the historic districts that helped fuel downtown’s resurgence.
“This 40th anniversary is really a celebration of downtown Nashville itself,” says Rick Ryan, Marketing Lead and Board Member of The DISTRICT Nashville. “The Progressive Party began at a time when downtown looked very different, and for four decades it has given people a reason to explore these historic streets, support their businesses, and celebrate the people who make them special. It’s exciting to honor that history while experiencing everything downtown has become today.”
The evening will also recognize two Nashvillians whose leadership embodies that commitment to the city. Barrett Hobbs, a third-generation hospitality leader, former Chair of The DISTRICT, and longtime downtown advocate, will receive the Spirit of The DISTRICT Award. Michelle Scopel will receive the Judy Bayer Steele Service Award, recognizing her years of leadership and commitment to Nashville and its continued growth. Scopel now serves with the East Bank Development Authority, helping guide one of the most significant chapters in the future development of Nashville.
Proceeds from the Progressive Party support The DISTRICT Nashville, the nonprofit dedicated to the economic and community revitalization of Broadway, Second Avenue/Riverfront, Printers Alley, and their surrounding areas. Over the years, that work has supported beautification, landscaping, lighting, pedestrian improvements, seasonal decorations, preservation efforts, and other initiatives that help keep downtown vibrant.
Long before Lower Broadway became one of the country’s most recognizable entertainment destinations, the people behind The DISTRICT and the Progressive Party saw the potential in Nashville’s historic downtown. 40 Years of Neon, Notes & Nightlife celebrates that vision — and the generations of merchants, preservationists, residents, hospitality leaders, sponsors, and supporters who helped turn it into reality.
After four decades, the Progressive Party remains a uniquely Nashville tradition: three venues, one all inclusive ticket, and one night celebrating 40 years of downtown history — while helping preserve it for what comes next.
