Part neighborhood bar, part off-leash park, and part social club, dog park bars offer the perfect solution for Louisvillians who want to grab a drink without leaving their fur baby behind. The Derby City area boasts two standout woman-owned dog park bars where pups can exercise while humans socialize. Whether you’re looking for a quick brew or a pet playdate, here’s everything you need to know about where to go for cocktails and canine connections.

PG&J’s Dog Park Bar

Neighborhood: Original Highlands
More Info: pgjdogbar.com

Founded in January 2021 by Regina Nobles, PG&J’s Dog Park Bar is a social bar where dogs are the main event. Its playful vibe is best captured by the large-lettered fence slogan: ‘Fetch. Drink. Poop. Repeat.’ Though you don’t need a dog to go, it can be a great place to let your pup roam while you hang out with other humans.

The space includes a large indoor off-leash area, plus an outdoor turf yard with a separate area for smaller dogs. There’s also ample bar and lounge seating (including shaded areas), TVs and games, and lots of water stations for the pups.

If you do decide to bring your best four-legged pal for an outing, keep in mind that dogs must be supervised at all times, and no outside treats, toys, or choke/prong collars are allowed inside the play areas. Dogs must also be at least four months old and have proof of rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations.

A variety of craft beers and cocktails are available, as are mocktails and other seasonal NA beverages. The bar hosts occasional food pop-ups, and food trucks often park on Baxter Avenue. Single-day and multi-visit passes are available, along with monthly and annual memberships. For special occasions, such as birthday parties or baby showers, guests can submit an online inquiry to reserve a space for both two and four-footed attendees.

Club K9 Dog Park Bar

City: Jeffersontown
More Info: louisvilledogbar.com

Co-owned by mother-and-daughter team Marilyn and Lauren Parker, Club K9 Dog Park Bar has been serving pups and their humans since August 2021. Boasting a suburban backyard party vibe, the J-Town spot offers both indoor and outdoor spaces, with a massive open play area for large dogs to sprint to their heart’s content.

The bar includes a 1.5-acre dog run area with almost 9,000 square feet of off-leash, all-seasons-suitable space. Guests can expect heated indoor play areas during winter, and water features when the weather heats up.

Dogs must be four months or older and wear a flat collar or harness to enter. Vaccination records for rabies, distemper, and bordetella are required, with the canine influenza vaccine strongly encouraged. No outside food, drinks, dog treats, or toys are allowed, but tennis balls are provided for play.

Humans can enjoy a full-service bar with beer, cocktails, wine, seltzer, and NA drinks, plus occasional rotating food vendors and food trucks. Day passes and monthly or annual memberships are available. If you’re celebrating something special, the bar serves as an event venue for all types of occasions — dog-related or not. That includes weddings, anniversaries, work soirees, birthday parties, and more.
