Ingredients

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 8 tbsp (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Garlic Butter Topping

  • 4 tbsp (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Make the biscuits: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and Old Bay. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and melted butter.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until the dough is lumpy but well mixed. Fold in the cheddar (do not overmix).
  • Arrange 1/4-cup portions of dough on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes.
  • While the biscuits bake, make the garlic butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, parsley, and onion powder. Brush onto the biscuits before serving.
