Looking for a way to get out with the whole family during these final weeks of winter? Belmont University’s basketball program is the ideal community-centered activity for all ages. Offering so much beyond the action on the court, you can expect plenty of family-friendly activities — from face painting and balloon artists to photo opportunities with mascots and cheerleaders, and more. We sat down with Belmont’s Senior Associate Athletic Director, Josh Ward, to hear more about what fans can expect from the remainder of the season!

High-Quality Competitive Basketball

In the 2023-24 season alone, the Belmont basketball teams have accumulated more than 20 wins after almost 30 combined games. This high level of skill can be expected from both the women’s and men’s teams, and it’s often proven by the championship titles the teams receive each season.

“When you come to a Belmont basketball game, you’re going to experience high-level college basketball — on both the men’s and women’s side,” explains Josh. “We’ve been very successful for a long time in both of our basketball programs, especially in terms of NCAA tournaments and wins … You’re going to get a really high-quality product at an excellent price.”

Experience More Than Just Basketball

In addition to an exciting, highly competitive sporting event, fans can also enjoy entertainment off the court. When you step into the university’s home area, the Curb Event Center, you’re greeted by a 20-foot inflatable of Belmont’s mascot, Bruiser. As you continue through the venue, you’ll also find various photo booth setups, face-painting stations, and local vendors.

When it’s time to officially enter the arena, take your seat in one of the 5,000 stadium chairs. Or, if you have children, make your way to the dedicated Kids’ Zone, a lively general admission area near the court that offers plenty of opportunities for little ones to be on the big screen. Plus, Bruiser is known to interact with this area regularly throughout the game!

“Thanks to all of these extra and different pieces during the event — especially during a college basketball game at our price point — Belmont games become a really fun outing for a family,” Josh tells us.

Longstanding & Unique Traditions

While there are surprises peppered throughout every Belmont basketball game, there are a few frequent events and traditions that fans have come to know and love. For example, during halftime, the Bruins often host live entertainment like Christian & Scooby, scrimmages between local youth basketball teams, performances by Belmont cheerleaders, and more.

You’ll experience another beloved tradition called Crunch Time. “This signifies the last few moments where we’ve got to make the right plays to win the game,” explains Josh. “Our cheerleaders, Bruiser, and our sports staff will throw mini Crunch Bars into the crowd, and we have a song we play with it. This has been going on since the Curb Event Center opened over 20 years ago.”

An Easy Event to Attend

One of the most significant features Belmont basketball fans enjoy is how easy it is to attend a game — from buying tickets to game-day logistics. While tickets can be purchased in person or over the phone, Josh says the quickest way to snag yours is by visiting the Belmont website. Plus, tickets are relatively inexpensive, starting at $7 each.

When game day rolls around, Josh offers up a pro tip: Use the Curb Event Center’s free parking garage (located at 1520 Bernard Avenue). “Often, first-time attendees will try to park on the street, or they’ll park across campus and have to walk,” adds Josh. “If you park in the parking garage directly next to the arena or in the South Garage — a block away — it’s very easy to get in and out of the arena.”

“Basketball games are family-friendly experiences that differ from other events in Nashville because you’re not dealing with extremely large crowds or difficult parking and logistics,” explains Josh.
