Derek Van Mol and his wife Marcie Allen call this 1930s brick Belle Meade house “home,” having fully renovated the five-bed, four-and-a-half-bath residence. In fact, Derek is the founder of Van Mol Restoration, a local firm that led the renovation efforts, which resulted in a floorplan that’s ideal for gathering and entertaining. The pair originally purchased the home for its great bones, ideal location and pool, and they gave the interiors an upgrade while simultaneously respecting the home’s history and updating it to fit their family’s needs. Now on the market, this tasteful abode, located on Lynnwood Boulevard, now awaits its next residents looking for a family-friendly place to land. Yes, the approximately 5,000-square-foot home just hit the market!
PinThe brick 1930s home features renovated interiors customized by Van Mol Restoration founder Derek Van Mol plus a large, private backyard. The family, natives of Nashville, lovingly restored the property, and now, they are opening the doors to new homeowners.PinInside, a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, den, family room with a gas fireplace, sunroom and Florida room are the key to the successful layout. The open floor plan creates opportunities to easily flow through the spaces, which invite gathering and conversation.
Although the architecture skews traditional, the current homeowners modernized the space with a neutral color palette layered with colorful finishes and an endless collection of art. When the furnishings are stripped away, the bones of the house provide a solid and beautiful foundation. The interiors include open seating and gathering areas, five bedrooms, a laundry room, exercise room, man cave and kitchen with a breakfast room, which offers enough space for the entire family, plus guests.
The home was originally built in 1939, and recent improvements celebrate the decades-old charm while making it suitable for today. In addition to a redesign that prioritized gathering spaces, household improvements were made to increase the house’s functionality. The kitchen received a full renovation less than two years ago that brightened the space and included new quartz countertops, marble backsplash in a herringbone pattern, updated fixtures, hand-hammered stainless sinks and new appliances. “I did a lot of research on different kinds of materials for countertops,” Derek tells StyleBlueprint. “I do that for my clients anyway, so I kind of knew where I wanted to go. I wanted quartz, which is man-made, non-porous, very durable. You still have to maintain it, but it’s not like putting marble in your kitchen – though it gives the same look. And with the backsplash, I did go with marble to accent the veining in the countertops that I chose.”
Additional (less noticeable) improvements include a resurfaced driveway, new irrigation system, new landscape lighting, video surveillance, fireplace repairs, fresh paint throughout the interiors, new blinds and fixtures, and an updated pool heating, filtering, and pumping system.

Design elements to note include quartz countertops, Carrara marble backsplash, Brooklyn-inspired metal fixtures above the island and hand-hammered stainless sinks.PinThe home boasts five bedrooms, with the master bedroom located on the second floor of the three-story house. Each bedroom is designed to be comfortable and invites relaxation.PinDerek and Marcie reserved two bedrooms for their two young kids.
The sunroom became a year-round destination for casual get-togethers hosted by the homeowners. The design features removable plexiglass windows installed over the screens plus a mini-split HVAC so the space is enjoyable in every season. Plus, the room is easily accessible from the den and living room, and it opens to the private backyard with photo-worthy landscaping and a heated in-ground lap pool. Outside, a wooden bridge crosses a picturesque creek, and mature trees shade the backyard. It is an ideal spot for everything from your morning coffee to an afternoon nap to an evening cocktail.
The house has been well-loved, and every corner was thoughtfully planned and executed; the property holds many memories for Derek, Marcie and their family, but it is ready to welcome new memories and a new family.
