If you’re planning to attend some get-togethers this summer, listen up. We have three tasty side dishes courtesy of our friends from Hattie B’s Hot Chicken that bring some of the restaurant’s most popular flavors into your own home. Whether you’re hosting your own backyard BBQ or need something to take with you to a friend’s, here are three amazing Southern sides — pimento mac & cheese, black-eyed pea salad, and potato salad — that will make your mouth water.
Pimento Mac & Cheese
“This is our version of a Southern classic, a favorite at meat-and-threes throughout the South,” says Hattie B’s Executive Chef John Lasater. “We add pimentos, the perfect complement to the extra sharp cheddar cheese. The secret to this delicious, creamy mac is the roux.” Find the recipe HERE.
Black-Eyed Pea Salad
“My grandmother was the inspiration for our black-eyed pea salad,” shares Chef John. “She would always serve this at family dinners and it’s one of my favorites. The vinegar in the salad cools the palate, making it the ideal side for hot chicken. We use more herbs than my grandmother did and dress the peas in a vinaigrette. Your guests will ask for the recipe.” Find the recipe HERE.
Potato Salad
“This is the perfect potato salad to bring to family reunions and backyard cookouts. You could cut this recipe in half, but why would you?!” says Chef John. “It will go quickly. A couple of tips: don’t burn the bacon and check frequently when cooking the potatoes and remove them when knife-tender.” Find the recipe HERE.
