3 Local Couples’ Ideal Memphis Weekend Agenda

We asked three Memphis couples to share an itinerary for their ideal weekend spent in the Bluff City. And one thing was clear: Besides its obviously awesome outdoor escapes, Memphis is a food lover’s dream town. Check out the fabulous eateries, farmers’ markets, at-home meals, as well as some great places for an al fresco stroll — or libation and a tasty bite, because it all comes back to the culinary adventures in the 901! From Collierville to Midtown and Shelby Farms to the Greenline to good ol’ quality time spent at home, these three fabulous agendas are chock full of fun ways to enjoy a weekend in Memphis with your significant other.

Friday

We kick off the weekend with a walk from our downtown townhome to The Gray Canary bar for oysters and drinks, and later we like to grab a late-night soul burger and enjoy live music at Earnestine & Hazel’s.

Saturday

We enjoy starting the day with a morning stroll to the Memphis Farmers Market to get inspired for weeknight meals ahead. Then we head to Shelby Farms Hyde Lake Loop with a Jerry’s Sno Cones stop on the way. That evening, we head to Midtown, where it’s Tsunami or Bari if we’re feeling cozy for date night, and Hopdoddy or Bounty on Broad if we are with a group! We’d end the night with a nightcap at Dodici or Mollie Fontaine.

Sunday

Sunday morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast at home or a trek to Porcellino’s in East Memphis — because those chicken biscuits are so worth it! Then, we’ll spend a lazy Loflin Yard afternoon with our pup Sawyer and a pitcher of Ghost River Golden. And we end our ideal weekend with our Sunday dinner ritual at Phuong Long in the Crosstown neighborhood, where it’s vermicelli for summer nights and pho soup for winter ones.

Friday

We tend to be creatures of habit. Friday nights are our 148 North Main nights, so we are heartbroken that it has recently closed. We loved to see many of our Collierville friends there and especially loved bartender, Kendrick; server, Lisa; chief cook and bottle washer, Patrick; and, of course, the owner, Chef Brian. We will now probably be cooking a steak from Thomas Meat & Seafood in Collierville and having a glass of wine by the pool.

Saturday

In the real estate world, our weekend daytime is normally filled with listing appointments and showings, which pay the bills, but as the day comes to an end, we can’t wait to see our Germantown and East Memphis friends at our favorite fine dining restaurant ever, Southern Social. Some of our favorites at Southern Social are the general manager, Joe Faine; manager, Jason Gipson; server, Becca; and our longtime love, Chef Nick.

Sunday

Sunday lunch, as well as weekday lunch 60 to 75 percent of the time, is at our super-favorite sports bar and family restaurant, The SkyBox Grill in Collierville. The entire Cunningham family has become family to us, along with too many of the amazing staff to mention, but we will give a shout out to our superstar, Liz. We wind down our food scene Sunday nights at our favorite sushi restaurant, Fuji Cafe in Collierville, always eating the same combination.

Friday

Friday begins the never-ending battle of which best Memphis restaurant to meet at for dinner. We either end up at Bari’s bar, which has our favorite Memphis bartender; or if the weather permits, we choose Acre’s patio. You can’t beat their outside vibe on a nice night. For us, after a long week, a five o’clock vodka cocktail and early dinner is just the ticket to start the weekend off on the right note.

Saturday

To start the day, we both enjoy a yoga class at Hot Yoga Plus or a run on the Greenline. Brunch is always in the works, if we aren’t cooking. Being the foodies we are, we wake up thinking about our next meal. Beauty Shop or Hog & Hominy seem to be our latest go-tos. Saturday afternoons, to fill the time between brunch and dinner, we will stop at Railgarten or Wiseacre Brewery. Dinner is always a battle between which Andy Ticer or Michael Hudman restaurant to go to next. We love to sit at Andrew Michael‘s bar and end the night by their fabulous outdoor fire for a nightcap.

Sunday

Sunday is our lazy day. We like to go to The Kitchen, hang out at Shelby Farms and enjoy each other’s company while taking a stroll. Sunday night is for the screened-in porch and the Big Green Egg, usually grilling steaks purchased at Porcellino’s and enjoying a bottle of cab from the Wine Market next to the fire. It is the best way to wind down the weekend and get ready for the work week.
