New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations (Ended)
This event has been ended.
New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations explores the work of four contemporary masquerade artists—Chief Ekpenyong Bassey Nsa (Nigeria), David Sanou (Burkina Faso), Sheku “Goldenfinger” Fofanah (Sierra Leone), and Hervé Youmbi (Cameroon)—highlighting their motivations, artistic choices, and the patronage and economic networks that support their practice. The exhibition presents fresh perspectives on contemporary masquerade while addressing issues of ownership and research ethics. Featured works include Kimi Masquerade in Honor of André Sanou’s “Qui Dit Mieux?” (2022), a headpiece crafted from wood, fibers, glue, synthetic dyes, and paints, commissioned for the Fitchburg Art Museum. The exhibition runs from October 9, 2025, to January 4, 2026. More information HERE.
