Meet Abbey Moore of The Golden Slipper
We caught up with the owner of Germantown's favorite gift shop, The Golden Slipper, to find out what's on the horizon, how she's balancing life as a new mom, and more!
If you follow content creators in the lifestyle realm, you might be familiar with Abbey Moore, whose blog, The Perfect Little Life, is a fun foray into all things tasty, creative, and travel-related. Or, you might know Abbey from her much-loved Germantown gift shop, The Golden Slipper, which opened in June 2020 amid the pandemic and managed to thrive despite COVID woes and even some tornado damage.
The store specializes in seasonal trinkets, florals, balloon installations, curated pantry items, and more. Inspired by her grandmother, who Abbey says played the B-3 organ while wearing gold slippers, the boutique is like stepping into Abbey’s own home, with an emphasis on local makers (check out a virtual walkthrough of her store here!). We’re catching up with Abbey to find out where she finds inspiration, how life as a new mama is treating her, and what’s coming next.

What was your upbringing like?
I grew up a “PK,” preacher’s kid. We moved around a lot, which kind of forced me to be a people person! My family is really close, and my dad taught us a lot about being an entrepreneur, which has definitely carried me through life.
What inspired your lifestyle blog, The Perfect Little Life?
I wanted a creative outlet for all of the things I was doing — crafts, music, fashion, and lifestyle. I figured, why not have it all in one spot? And I love storytelling, which I really try to do through the blog.
What led you to the retail space, and what drew you to open your shop in Germantown?
My hobby started to really turn into a business, and I’ve always wanted to have a brick and mortar. I was making candles (and more) in my kitchen, and my husband said, “I think it’s time to get a store!” We live in Germantown, and I just love the community aspect of the neighborhood. I wanted to be a part of that and help bring kindness and joy to Nashville through my business.

Over half of the items in your shop are local. What are some favorites?
We love supporting local! We all start somewhere. Some of my favorites are the pretzels from Theresa’s Twists, Tenn Prairie, the unique Turkish rugs from The Brooding Loom, and the creative pottery pieces from Crystal Shade. Oh, and of course, our own hand-poured candles. That’s how this whole thing started!
What are the hottest gift items in your shop right now?
Some of the hottest items are the vintage-inspired barware we sell and the fun cocktail mixers. We also have a kid’s section now, which is fun to curate. And [I love to] see people buy special baby gifts. Oh, and did I mention our candles?

Are there any upcoming workshops we should keep an eye out for?
We have a lot planned for 2023! [We’ll offer] candle making, wreath making, and some fun collaborations with other local Nashville creatives.
You recently had a baby and are busy with your brick-and-mortar (and online) shop. How do you carve out time for yourself, and what do you do for self-care in the midst of it all?
I am still learning how to juggle it all! But first off, I have an amazing husband. He, along with my brother, are my business partners. My husband helps in so many ways — at the shop and at home. Next, I have a fabulous and supportive staff who’ve kept it running while I’ve been gone.

What’s the last best meal you had here in Nashville, and where were you?
The best meal I’ve had in Nashville, hands down, is at City House. They are such a Nashville staple. The belly ham pizza is my FAVE! Oh, and their coffee cream soda cake is something I dream about.
What’s next on the horizon?
Next on the horizon? I have a list, but [would] need a few million dollars. HA! We have a wholesale side to the business where we make custom private-label candles, so we have a lot of plans for that. And you might see a few new arms of our shop popping up and evolving! Stay tuned!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice is from my grandma, who the store is in honor of! She always taught me to follow my dreams. But she said, “Always try something twice. If it doesn’t work, move on to the next thing.” You’ll never know if you don’t try.
Outside of faith, family, and friends, what are three things you can’t live without?
COFFEE, amazing food, and my dogs! (There are too many things to mention, so why not go with the fun things?)
