Whiskey for Everyone: A Tasting with Doc Brown Farm & Distillers
At Doc Brown Farm & Distillers, whiskey is less about rules and more about slowing down, savoring, and enjoying every pour. This women-owned, seed-to-still distillery offers a playful and welcoming experience for beginners and seasoned sippers alike. Image: Doc Brown Farm & Distillers
I’ve only been to two whiskey tastings in my life, and let’s just say the first one was not for me. I’m more of a canned cocktail, glass of wine kind of gal, so when I nervously added a tiny splash of water to my bourbon and received a few odd glances … well, I felt like I’d committed a cardinal sin.
Then I spent an evening exploring Doc Brown Farm & Distillers, a women-founded and women-owned distillery in Senoia, GA. It’s the state’s only seed-to-still distillery, and if you’re like me (read: a complete rookie to the whiskey/bourbon world), it’s the perfect introduction — free of any judgment or pretension.
A Warm Welcome + “Whiskey Meditation”
From the moment I arrived at the farm, I felt completely at ease. I was first greeted by Doc Brown founders Paige Dockweiler and Amy Brown as they handed me a refreshing glass of iced tea. From there, we enjoyed a tour of the farm before heading to a guided whiskey meditation led by Spirits Specialist Sailor Guevara.

From start to finish, every moment felt intentional and inviting. Rather than focusing on tasting notes or what we “should” be experiencing, we were encouraged to slow down and really embrace the moment. For example, at one point, Sailor instructed us to imagine the color orange and the images it brought to mind as we sipped on Uncle Bogue.

Good Spirits, Great Company
After the tasting, we gathered for a catered dinner, where conversation flowed as easily as the spirits. It felt less like a formal event and more like a dinner party among longtime friends. It left me not just with a newfound appreciation for whiskey but also for the people behind it.

The Story Behind The Spirits
The story behind Doc Brown is just as thoughtful as the experience and spirits themselves. In 2019, Amy and Paige discovered Jimmy Red Corn, a nearly lost heirloom maize once used in Southern moonshine before Prohibition. With their newfound curiosity and inspiration, they planted the corn on their farm and began distilling their own bourbon. What they found was a smooth, nutty whiskey rich in both flavor and history.

Today, Doc Brown continues to grow Jimmy Red Corn naturally, even going as far as hand-pollinating each and every crop to preserve its purity. This dedication has expanded, and the distillery now grows heirloom Abruzzi Rye from Italy, along with wheat and barley from other farms in Georgia, creating a true taste of the Old South in every pour.
An Experience Open to All
While Doc Brown Farm & Distillers doesn’t currently offer public tastings, anyone can book a private event for a guided tour, intimate tasting, and meal similar to the one I experienced. Public farm tours have ceased for the remainder of this year but will resume next March/April and run through early October, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the farm and learn about its history and crops. Whether you’re planning a special occasion or a leisurely visit, Doc Brown Farm offers a unique way to slow down, savor, and celebrate Southern hospitality.
Cheers!
