5 Creative Ways to Use Wreaths This Holiday Season

Combine various colors, greens and florals.

One of the reasons Christmas wreaths make such an impact is because of their vibrant green color. However, reinvent the traditional wreath by tying together the colors and themes of your holiday decor. Create a wreath mixing different greens and florals by adding a variety of textures and colors, which not only adds separation, but is more appealing to the eye.

Hang faux fur wreaths in doorways.

Faux fur is always a festive winter staple, and around the holidays, you can also incorporate faux fur into your wreaths. This more modern take on the traditional wreath can add flare to the home by simply hanging it with cord or decorative ribbon in the doorway of your home.

Faux fur wreaths come in many different colors and sizes, but the most popular colors this season are white, ivory and beige. They are easy to keep clean and will last for many seasons to come.

Incorporate boxwood wreaths into tablescapes.

The boxwood wreath is a quintessential “Christmas wreath,” especially over the past few years. Anna Page, founder of Rebel Hill Florist, explains how it can also be used inside the home as an accent piece or tablescape for entertaining. “For a more ornate tablescape, incorporate bold, red statement pieces, such as metallic ornaments and candles,” Anna suggests.

To achieve a subdued winter white tablescape, intertwine neutral ribbons, frosted ornaments and succulents. Adding decoration around the top and center of the wreath creates a layered effect, and you can even mix in different lighted accents if you plan on entertaining into the evening.

Hang wreaths directly on walls or over mirrors.

Many of us have so many holiday decorations that we don’t know what to do with them. If you have more wreaths than you do doors, trying hanging a wreath directly on the wall or as a garnish over an existing mirror or iron mantle piece. Or, if your walls are covered in art, remove an existing piece for the season, and hang the wreath in its place.

Add mini evergreen wreaths to the back of chairs.

Smaller evergreen wreaths are great for decorating. Trying placing some on the back of the chairs that surround your holiday table or that are used during a festive holiday party as a fun way to dress up the space. Anna recommends adding a metal accent or ribbons that match the decor or theme of your party.

Another idea Anna suggests is breaking up portions of a wreath or adding decorative accents such as bells or berries to the back of a chair. We think this is the perfect idea for a front porch rocking chair.
