Shimmer: Dreaming the Posthuman
Explore the boundaries between humanity, technology, other species, and the natural world in Shimmer: Dreaming the Posthuman, a thought-provoking exhibition at Frist Art Museum featuring 17 artists working across analog and emerging technologies. Through digital animation, augmented and virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, artists including Ian Cheng, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, Marguerite Humeau, Josèfa Ntjam, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Saya Woolfalk challenge ideas of human superiority and encourage a deeper ethic of care for the planet. Drawing on the surrealist fascination with the marvelous, uncanny, and unpredictable, the exhibition presents fluid, ever-changing works in which images morph, flicker, and dance, creating psychologically charged archetypes within a new collective unconscious.
