Louisville fashion expert and House of Colour image consultant Meghan Tinker breaks down three of fall’s biggest runway trends, with expert tips for making them work for your personal style, coloring, and body shape.

Remember when your favorite fashion magazine landed in the mailbox and showed you how to wear runway looks in real life? Consider this your virtual version.

As an image consultant, I can help you sort through each season’s color and style trends — I use style and color analysis to help you understand your coloring and body shape and choose clothing that fits and flatters. No trend works for everyone, so knowing which ones honor you helps you understand whether to dive in or just dip a toe into any given fad. Think of it as the “easy button” for your wardrobe.

Here are the three most wearable trends from the 2026 runways, along with some guidelines on which ones will make you look and feel your best.

Romantic Revival

Spotted at Balmain, Ulla Johnson, and Altuzarra, this trend nods to the Victorian era with soft, feminine fabrics, lace, and floral prints. If you have a curvier body shape, these romantic details are a natural fit.

Why does it work? The lines in your clothing look best when they echo the lines of your body. Soft, fluid fabrics drape over curves rather than standing away from them, and details such as corset-style bodices, sweetheart necklines, and belts showcase your waist. Rounded floral patterns and swirling prints work because they repeat your curves, as opposed to stiff fabrics and sharp geometric patterns that fight against them.

Vintage-inspired brooches, bags, and scarves are an easy way to try the look without going all in. One of my favorite spots for unique finds is Stella’s Resale Boutique in St. Matthews.

Not sure where to start with a brooch? Pin one at the collar of a crisp blouse, cluster two or three on a coat lapel, or use one to secure a silk scarf. For a subtler take, pin one to a hat band or a plain handbag.

Plum Party

Purples and plums are everywhere this season, from Tory Burch to MSGM to Chloé. The good news? We’re finding that some version of purple flatters almost every client.

Fall’s shades run the gamut, from soft, muted lilac to mid-tone heliotrope to deep plums that edge toward burgundy. For many people, the deepest plums work as a neutral and can even stand in for black.

We love pairing purples with camel and leopard to warm up the look. If your palette runs cool, try gray or silver instead for a more sophisticated take.

Modern Menswear

Have a straight shoulder line and narrower hips? Menswear-inspired pieces are made for you. Look for herringbone wool trousers, crisp tailoring, and utilitarian fastenings. And the vest, paired with just about anything, is still going strong. If you love rocking a full suit, you are in good company. This fall, we saw Saint Laurent, Celine, and Tom Ford send full suits and tuxedo-inspired looks down their runways.

There’s nothing wrong with leaning all the way into a menswear look. If you’d like to soften it, though, try a ruffle-collar blouse under your vest, or borrow a brooch or a scarf from the Romantic Revival trend and pin it to a lapel.
