ARTlab: A Drinking Chocolate Workshop — Past and Present
Peel, pour, and sip your way through chocolate history during this delicious workshop led by chocolate historian Sophia Rea and inspired by the exhibition An Indigenous Present. Participants can peel raw cacao beans, create their own drinking chocolate using spices and flowers enjoyed since precontact Mesoamerica, and froth it by hand with a traditional molinillo. The experience also includes a tasting of chocolate produced today at Mexico’s oldest cacao farm, founded in 1823. Sophia Rea, a chocolate historian and former chef with more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, guides guests through this flavorful exploration of cacao and its cultural history. Tickets are $25 for members and $45 for not-yet members. Space is limited, and registration is required. For more information, visit fristartmuseum.org.
