On September 28th, 2013, Clay Jackson, Jr. married Minnette Boesel at St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea which stands atop Sunset Hill, the highest geographic point on Cape Cod.

Their wedding, like so many others before theirs, captured the charm and loveliness of Hyannis Port, an idyllic seaside town. What stands out the most about their wedding, however, is the sheer understated simplicity and elegance of the affair — gorgeous neutral hues of color against the backdrop of breathtaking vistas. As family and friends gathered to celebrate, the one overriding thought by all in attendance was how perfectly suited Clay and Minnette were for each other.

They met by chance at the gym in New York City. Both lived in the same neighborhood, both were ardent workout enthusiasts and both had Vanderbilt connections. She was a recent graduate, so dressing in the black and gold gear was her drill. He, taking notice of the lovely Minnette, wore his Vandy shirt everyday to the gym until an introduction ensued. No creepy guy at the gym trying to score a date, but rather, a dashing, Athens-of-the-South (i.e. Nashville) fellow forging a reasonable connection. It worked.

Four years later, Clay planned a weekend getaway in Charleston, SC. There, at the Cathedral of St. Luke & St. Paul, a beautiful historic church where his great grandfather had an active role as rector in the early 1900’s, he asked for her hand in marriage. Champagne and tears ensued with dreams of their wedding underway.
The was no other choice for the bride and her family but Hyannis Port. For four generations, they have summered on the Cape with such fond memories. Even the altar was adorned in decades-old enormous conch shells from the bride’s grandmother, also used in other family members’ Hyannis Port weddings.
PinMinnette’s dress was by Rivini, with French Alençon lace with illusion lace over a sweetheart neckline and short, cap sleeves. The scoop opening in the back is simply gorgeous. She wore the mother of the groom’s veil, which was made antique Belgian lace to fulfill the “something borrowed” promise.PinA blue enamel locket pinned inside the brides’s dress was worn by her great grandmother and her aunt (something blue), and antique seed pearl earrings were worn by her mother, as well as a diamond horseshoe pin that was worn on the silk sash of her dress (something old). It was first worn by her great-grandmother, Minnette.PinThe color theme of creamy whites, silvery grays, blush pinks and green is present in all aspects of the wedding.PinGuests were treated to clever welcome bags. The bride’s dear friend Liz Mumford did the art for the “Save the Date” and also the “Wedding Locator Map.”PinKayan Amanat, Clay’s godson and one of the most precious ring bearers we’ve ever seen, wears a miniature version of the groomsmen’s bow ties. Back to Nashville–all bow ties for the groomsmen came from Otis James.PinSet against the subtle gray silk dupioni bridesmaid’s dresses, the flowers in creamy white with a hint of blush pink and dusty miller, were set off by the greens woven in the bouquet.PinThe bridesmaids, who are Minnette’s closest friends, wore a one-shoulder Lula Kate silk dupioni dress in a pale silvery-gray color.PinThe maid of honor is Louise Forman Boesel, the younger sister of the bride.PinA personal note from the groom accompanied the bow ties from Otis James.PinGroomsmen just wanna have fun. If you keep reading this article, you’ll see how they were, indeed, the life of the party. Their custom navy and pinstripe suits were from The Oxford shop paired with coordinating suspenders and bow ties, given by the groom to his groomsmen.PinThe bride and her proud father–we’re sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when they walked down the aisle.PinPrograms set in a Nantucket basket continue the Cape Cod theme.PinThe bride and groom profess their love at the altar.PinA perfect September day–sunshine and love, what more could you ask for?PinA family portrait: Mr. & Mrs. Clay Jackson, Minnette and Clay, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Boesel and Louise Boesel.PinTwo signature drinks were served: the “Bootstrap,”a bourbon-based drink with BBQ bitters, offering a nod to the South and the ‘“Joul Fizz,” a vodka-based drink named for Cafe Joul, the restaurant where they had their first date. Both cocktails were created by Ryan Moses from Best Brands.PinNashville’s own Val Cole did the beautiful calligraphy.PinTables were a mix of round tops with silver satin tablecloths and low arrangements, and long farm tables with Lucite ghost chairs and tall arrangements of cascading orchids and white flowers.PinThe newly married couple take a relaxing moment to reflect and enjoy the reception.PinThe guests were treated to this spectacular view overlooking the club’s golf course, the marshes of Squaw Island, and Nantucket Sound.PinThe black and white photo booth was a surprise from the maid of honor and sister, Louise Boesel, and her boyfriend. But, they sure look ready.PinThe wedding cake was a vanilla almond cake with different flavors in the layers.PinClay was nicknamed “Boots” by his parents, so it is appropriate that the grooms’ cake was a pair life sized cowboy boots. Once sliced, the guests were treated to a delicious carrot cake.PinSparklers sent them off into the night. A relative of the bride lent them a the getaway car, a 1950’s cream Mercedes coup convertible.PinOne word says it all!
